Suspension parts, steering pump & others

Hi,

The car I am thinking of buying as a companion to my V6 Exclusive is a S2 VSX Turbo manual, but needs front suspension bushes and a replacement power steering pump (which sounds like its bearing is shot). Less essential but req'd sooner or later is the wind deflector for the sunroof, the O/S arm of which has broken off its mounting due to corrosion.

The latter may be a scrapper item, but Citroen say they won't/can't supply the other parts – so does anyone know who can? (The bushes are an MoT failure and were an advisory at the last test).

Hi Mark

Have some recovered sunroofs.
I have seen wishbone steering bushes offered recently on ebay so should still be obtainable.
Hydraulic pump can be refurbished or replaced so can the steering rack.
You could try a PM to citroenxm.
He is closest to you and might be willing to do some of the work.
You need to get a far more complete definition of the work needed and cost before you agree a price for the car.

Hi John,

Thanks for the swift reply and you're right about the bushes: in fact Remy at Medway Citroen says they're still available from Citroen, which my local garage claimed not to be the case, albeit at vast expense. As you suggest, I'll ask citroenxm about the pump and Medway also have a scrapper with a good sunroof wind deflector, although they want rather a lot for that, too!

As for the haggling value of all this (plus re-fuelling the spheres and re-gassing the air-con), well yes it's critical although I think the vendor is losing patience and claims that others are v. interested... I shall soon see if that's really the case!

Excuse me for butting in. Are the bushes under discussion part #3523, total of 6 bushes? What's the price Citroen has put on these?

Well since you ask, the price I was quoted by Medway Citroen was £17.59 for each of the four front bushes, and £23.82 for each of the two rear ones. Not cheap!!!

Thank you, Mark, for your reply. Not cheap, as you say, but these parts need to be stocked and kept in inventory for years, and last in our cars for 10 years or so. The Chinese could produce them cheaper, probably - and maybe they do! Thinking of it, rubber parts are never cheap: tyres, bushes, rollers with rubber in them, bump stops, seals, you name it. Think about the strut tops? We balk at the prices, but I realize the manufacturer needs to stay alive. Copying is easy.

My understanding is that the later bushes are still available, early ones not so.

Well Dieselman, as I pointed out earlier, the later ones are still available, but at a hefty price. Jan Hendrik's point about re-manufacturing is a good one, but who on earth would want to organise it? Clearly not Citroen dealers!
