Free to a good home - bits of ZF4 HP18 auto

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Free to a good home - bits of ZF4 HP18 auto

Free to anyone who can collect;

Partially dismantled ZF4-HP18 automatic transmission from a 1995 XM 2.1 TD Auto.
This transmission did all the things its well known for so doubt it can be rebuilt unless someone has ability to totally rebuild and test one. The main 'bellhousing/planetary gear and clutch housing is still intact as is the diff but the valve block is off and in bits. Torque converter is intact.

Might be useful as a source of parts only. These 4HP18's are getting rare and many auto repairers will not or cannot repair them or carry much stock of spares. That's the main reason I sold on the XM. Won't bother getting another auto as a daily driver again.

Originally the symptoms pointed at broken governor seals but despite changing them, the symptoms were still there plus it eventually went bang and failed to proceed.
Please note:
It's heavy - approx 100 kilos with the torque converter, so it will have to be collected. Doesn't need a van - I once collected a ZF in the back of a Rover 216. Does need two people to lift it safely though - and I will help whoever collects it to lift it in the vehicle.
So let me know via PM if you want a free non-working auto transmission. As I said it's free and taking up room in my garage.
1995 XM 2.1 auto hatchback RP 6717. Sold on for spares or repair.
1992 Rover 216 GTi twincam 16v 130 bhp. Unbreakable mechanicals, bodywork - less so.

2015 - Still waiting for the hover conversion kit but do wear two neckties at same time.
