Diesel XM wanted, prefer MANUAL now!

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

:D How far do you reckon that car is from you?
Plymouth is a very easy 80 miles from here, about 75% of the journey is on dual carrigeway, about an hour and a half A30/A38, don't know where abouts it is in Plymouth.

If you are thinking about a manual Mk1 I looked at one in Bridgwater on Sunday, leather interior and aircon, very nice, needs some work done, but you can do a lot of work for the difference in price! The red hatch on ebay, finshes tommorrow I think.

Thanks Peter, do you have any photos of the manual you mentioned? Leather and aircon sounds good and thinking about it a manual would probably be more economical than an auto. These XM's are lovely looking things. Again though, I am totally non technical so if it needs work I would have to get it into a specialist for the work (if economic to repair). Do most of you guys here work on your own cars or is there an XM specialist that is preferred?

Thanks for the helpful responses to a newbie.

Its on ebay with several pics (Item number: 170436303003) finishes tomorrow evening, £310.00 at the moment, it needs some work, primaraly a heater matrix which is leaking, that done it would be usable, its taxed and MOT'd. Copy and paste the item number into ebay and you can see for yourself.

Ah ok, that is the car I was thinking of. Sorry to ask as I know there are two other threads on this car but do you think it would be driveable as is?

Not as it is. You either chop up the hoses which would be sad, or fix the matrix there innthe guy's drive
as he has offered you can do in the auction. The job isn't too difficult and a replacement matrix costs
30-40 new from GSF. Try a search of this forum for discussions on the ways to fix these!

This link onto the old paralysed forum will give an idea of the task in hand to renew a matrix:
http://club-xm.com/forum2/index.php?showtopic=3862&hl=

lhd but only difference is dash bits in the way. I'd still undo the whole column without actually fully
removing it/disconnecting switches etc) just swinging it vertical to clear matrix. Otherwise you bend
tge vanes/matrix and damage the heater box plastics.

Does this look any good? Price seems a bit on the high side though?

Anything over £250 is dear to me :D I am sure you could find a cheaper one. If you are having to pay someone to maintain your car I wouldn't have a 2.5, they are even more complicated than the 2.1. Savoy cars were advertising a 2.1 auto a little while ago, don't know if they have sold it, I know the chap that runs it, seems very genuine but being in the business he has to make a profit, you would get one cheaper privately. Whatever car you buy it is bound to need some attention, so I should get a friendly Citroen compatable mechanic lined up first. Having said that, they will cost less to repair than a modern car and probably be more reliable.

Thats quite a low mileage for a 2.5. Most have been driven a lot more than that.

A good independent Citroen Mechanic shouldn't have any real problems with the 2.5. I found it easier to change the glow plugs on the 2.5 than on the 2.1. John will be able to advise more on the 2.5, I run a 2.1 daily, and have only started dabbling with the 2.5, which I plan to use from next week, after I get it MOT'd.

I have spoken to Malcolm at Savoy a few times and find him to be very honest and helpful.
