Re: LPG XM for sale on Ebay
That has got to be one of the stupidest ways of fitting a LPG tank that they could have found. It takes up nearly half the boot, and you can't fold the back seats down either!
So current bid of £1100 gets an XM with no boot space, a knackered Turbo, the suspension spheres are also ten years old, so probably need replacing. And I wouldn't want to trust a ten-year old cambelt either.
Apart from that, its a bargain!

Agreed. He's got a good sales pitch, though.

Re: LPG XM for sale on Ebay
I'm absolutely staggered that ebayers are willing to pay so much for the car.
As noted his sales pitch is good but a knackered turbo, unless DIY used part it will be seriously expensive. A recon is around £450/500 I think and fitting won't be cheap. As for the LPG install, well it looks tidy what you can see of it but who makes it? They could at least have said. I'm not keen on the tank in the boot. Is it an auto, I can't tell on my mobile?
Seems Ian got a good deal with mine.
Still it does look well looked after.

I wonder what the weight distribution is now between the front and rear axles and if the handling is sharper as a result.

Re: LPG XM for sale on Ebay
I have to say, the tank in boot is not a real problem! My V6 12v SEi has the tank in boot, and I still get ALL my tools, 3 tool box's, and a jack and have a small space left! The boots are bigger then you think! Put it another way, I also got a FULL Leather interior in the back of the V6 with the tank in place... ok, so I removed the bench squab first!
My Turbo Onyx has the LPG Tank in the spare wheel well, yes it makes a nice boot, but then you have to have the spare wheel in the boot.... and a smaller range on the tank...
As for the make of system, I dont think theres a bad system, the italian systems are good... not that Im saying I know what the system is...
Yes the car is an Auto.

Well you are sitting on a tank of fuel as well...i wouldn't be all that keen to sit in the back seat knowing i could be sent into orbit by LPGif it where hit up the arse !!!!!!!
The best compromise is the underfloor tanks. But then each of us use our cars for differnt things.

True, but that's not a gas under high pressure.robert_e_smart wrote:Well you are sitting on a tank of fuel as well...i wouldn't be all that keen to sit in the back seat knowing i could be sent into orbit by LPGif it where hit up the arse !!!!!!!
An LPG tank is very strong (hence weighs a lot) and has a pressure relief valve, so is safe for most situations.

Re: LPG XM for sale on Ebay
Jeez, I can't believe there's bidders for this at over £1100 with the knackered
turbo and other significantly compromised mechanicals.
I can think of no worse abomination than this car. It could've been a very
nice car once even allowing for the autobox.
That boot mounted LPG fuel tank renders the car useless and then chucking
the battery in with it in the boot is the worst thing I've seen in years. Have you
guys never had items of your best/good clothing burned by errant battery acid
even just from the airborne gas given off from the battery or brushing past
one being charged in the garage?
You can get very large range underfloor donut tanks so that'd certainly be the
way to go here. Nobody get's spare wheels in the new motors today so RAC/AA
membership is all that's required from filling the boot with a spare wheel.

Re: LPG XM for sale on Ebay
If the bidding is genuine it proves a point. The petrol turbo's are only cheap because of the running cost of the fuel.
