Series 2 V6 on Gumtree

I thought about putting a manual box in my S2 V6 but ended up buying a German S1 needing work last year. The guy I bought it from also had an S2 with PRV engine and manual gearbox. There are quite a few 406 Coupes in the UK with manual boxes from the late 90s which used the same engine as the XM. The gearboxes are cheap now if you want to have a go. I decided it was a bit too much work for me, even though I had a scrap 2.5 at the time that could have supplied the hydraulic clutch etc.

Must say the PRV engine in the S1 is really good, makes it a bit of a rocket whereas the S2 is more about smooth power. Trying to imagine an S2 manual, I think the extra surge in power of the S1's PRV at around 5000rpm due to the induction manifold setup would make it outperform the S2 on the road. Would make interesting comparison.

As far as NOT MODIFYING goes, the S1 24v XM Manual remains the quickest and fastest Citroen I beleve. Not even the SM is anything close. Though I think the CX GTI Turbo 2 with un-published figure of 200bhp comes close.

Have you ever noticed that?? The S1 GTi Turbo CX was 168bhp. The S2 GTi Turbo 2 with added intercooler strangley was also quoted 168bhp.. However, they had a bigger turbo and intercooler so theres no way the CX GTi T2 was 168bhp. Citroen never published the T2 BHP rate.

I agree. My recollection is they dropped the mechanical compression ratio to 7.5:1 for the Turbo 1 out of caution and raised it to 8.5:1 for the Turbo 2 because the compressed air was cooled by the intercooler. That's a large drop in CR and engine efficiency for the Turbo 1 and if the turbo boost pressure is the same on both cars then the Turbo 2 must make more power surely. I bought a Turbo 1 in 1990 and a Turbo 2 in 94 and I can't remember the 2 being more powerful, although it was significantly more fuel efficient in normal driving.

The PRV S1 XM is fast but a Maikonics Turbo 2 was the dogs gonads, sub 7s to 60 with a Cosworth clutch. Those were the days

The new C6 3.0 HDI is 240BHP. Also available in the C5.

CX GTi Turbo 2s are excellent. I have never experiences a Turbo 1 yet. Would like to buy the one Patrick Rugg has for sale if I had the cash.

But it needs it Robert, they are probably TWICE the weight of the XM...

Do they do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds??? And do they do 155mph?????

Dunno, but they will be quick enough, and use a lot less fuel!

Come on guys. What we need to do is unbolt a 3 litre HDi from a C6 or a Jag and just make it fit into an XM diesel!

Cant! Theres far too much involved in that! The HDi 110 with tuning box is much easyer and more possible...
