Wanted: 2.1 TD Lucas injectors

Try dropping them into a bucket of diesel for a few weeks before doing anything more.

£250 to recondition a set of pintle injectors sounds like robbery.

Pintle injectors a far easyer to open and clean up at home! If you can open a EPIC fuel pump, or any - which is one thing I still havent done - then an injector is no issue!! BE CAREFULL of the internal opening spring

Right, an update. I took one of the injectors to pieces. Water damage my arse! Apart from a bit of what looked like grease (I guess old fuel) on the spring, they were fine. Soaked the components in a jar of diesel overnight, cleaned them up and put back together again.

I drove over to where the XM was stored to, removed one of the injectors and did the glass jar test on each of the 605s Lucas injectors, all appeared to be fine. Just to double check the spray pattern was right, I screwed each of the 605s injectors into the XM head and ran the car. The XM runs smoothly on all of them which in my eyes rules out the injectors as a fault!

An observation I did make, when I undid the pipe to top of the injector nut a turn on the XM, it was very high pressure, as in all over the engine bay. The 605s pressure isn't as great as this. So, the pump is not kicking out enough pressure!

If the pressure is high enough to open the injectors Kev it should be OK, I think it was probably the nature of the gap the fuel was being ejected from that made the pressure look higher, or maybe the quantity was greater.

That's the trouble, I realise now that although the 605 pump is kicking out pressure, isn't high enough to open the injectors.

Never had that before, has it got rusted up or something?
