Cam belt and bits wanted... 2.5!

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

There are normally cheaper kits but the French one is out of stock.

My balance belt removed itself on Saturday on the way into Whitby. I felt it go and noticed the increased vibration, although my passenger (wife) couldn't tell the difference. No other damage done, car driven back to York OK. I ommited to change it at the last cam belt change, it looked OK but I don't know its history of change prior to that. The belt in my ownership has been on for well over 100,000 miles. Actualy, I struggled to loosen the tensioner roller, access is a bit tight, hence deciding to leave "well" alone. Obviously not so "well" after all. A nice job for next weekend, will change the cambelt and fit a new balance belt, all new rollers and tensioners.

Hi hydroman

Source and price of balance belt when you get one would be useful to know.
Last one I got was from GSF at £33 but that was more than 5 years ago.
Citroen price then was £67.
Can you fill in a bit more about mileages please (current, belt changed, car obtained).
That will help me decide how much to edit my earlier comments about letting balance belts run to 150k.

Thanks

John

Hello John
I still have the last belt I didn't use, in its box, about 2 years ago, Goodyear G1471H. There seems to be a few (not Goodyear) on ebay for around £30.00. I've just bought a timing belt kit for £83.00 on ebay, not quite the cheapest but click and collect at Argos option was convenient, arrives on Wednesday. Balance belt tensioner seems to be a bit harder, there are some out there, cheapest is on ebay from Lithuania, £40 including delivery but takes too long to get here, so I will use one I have in hand that seems to be OK.

I got the car from Ragger (forum member) about 5 years ago with about 128,000 miles, changed the timing belt at 160,00 three years ago but not the balance belt. Now showing 228,000. Service records suggested timing belt changed prior to my ownership and I recollect it was around the 70,000m mark but had no definitive evidence that the balance belt was changed. Maybe its been on there since birth.

Hi gang.

My XM has just had about £600 thrown at it over the last month or so to keep it's sorry ass on the road, I'd be VERY upset if the cambelt killed the engine.

Is this a complete kit?

Hi Tim

Picture is a generic one not 2.5 XM.
Text in advert says you are getting Main Belt, roller and idler tensioner.
Kit is just the common items for DJ (2.5 vans) and DK (2.5 XM & pug 605).
No main belt guide or balance belt bits.

Never seen a full 2.5 XM kit offered, it is typically the cut down kit in your advert.
