Thanks for the kind words. It failed the MOT as expected, tyres, track rod end, front suspension leak, exhaust leak, and handbrake lever missing? Also failed on emissions. All easily fixed.
The speedometer has stopped working, does anyone know if it's a mechanical speedo, or will it be sensors? Thanks.

The speedo is mechanical and unfortunately the cables do occasionally break and usually behind the instrument cluster! Regards, Matthew T.

Thanks Matthew. I've changed one before so it shouldn't be too much of a bother. Another daft question, do the XM's have ABS? The past few cars ive owned haven't had ABS so it's not a necessity.

You should have ABS as it was standard on the prestige i think.

Turns out that there's a bit more work required than first thought. The whole exhaust system needs to be replaced, and the garage is struggling to source parts from some of the jobs (as expected). Are there any suppliers?
Also the rear suspension is brick solid, and was bouncing on the journey home. Not an MOT issue, but will need to be sorted. Is it just a case of replacing the spheres?

What parts are they struggling with? i have lots of spares for that car still including a new CAT, exhaust components for the 2.0i are still readily available though.

I'm not 100% sure, I'm going to see them tomorrow, but they said the exhaust was a problem. Also a valve for the front sphere too.

Not sure what the valve would be?
The XM is old enough you do not need to use type approval parts so there is plenty of stuff available for it, bosal and many other manufacturers still do the full system for the car, you can get a cheap cat back system for under £200 from most motor factors and ebay sellers.
