Re: Right hand display
Possibly from a LHD car.
I suspect the glass delaminates as a result of damp ingress from the door and windows on unused cars.
I wonder if cars without a sunroof suffer less...
The LCD doesn't bleed liquid, otherwise the letters wouldn't be seen, it is the green glass delminating.

LH display (bleeding) repair
Have updated the diagram in the link above (LH matrix display repair), and replaced the original Word file with a PDF.
Diagram now appears correctly.

Re: Right hand display
As stated earlier there is NO green glass in any XM RH displays.
The problem with all RH displays is seal failure of the sealed LCD unit.

Re: Right hand display
Happened to have a couple of defective RH S1 displays here, and this is how the display parts are arranged.
Units were
Jaeger 339267-01 (casing label)
Jaeger 189710.06 (main p.c.b.)
Jaeger 189712.02 (illumination p.c.b.)
Interesting to see that the front-most part of the display (the part you can touch on the dash) is not actually glass, but a smoky plastic polarising film. It has the glass LCD sandwich immediately behind it.
EDIT: v2.pdf above contains connections for bench testing the module

Re: Right hand display
As I stated above there is no repair for the bleeding on these RH displays.
If the smokey plastic polarising film is peeled away it becomes clear that the bleeding is still present.
It is caused by a glue failure of the LCD sandwich that lets air into the liquid crystal fluid area.
This type of LCD fault cannot be repaired.
The only fix is to find a display that has not leaked.
A few years ago I worked through testing a batch of some 30 assorted RH displays.
In a quick search now I can find 5 displays discarded with serious bleeding but think there must be another 4 or 5 that were rejected.

Re: Right hand display
Just thinking aloud on this...
The repair I described to the LH (matrix) display, which had a bad bleed inside the LCD sandwich, was effected simply by transferring the polarising filter from one side of the LCD unit to the other, and angling it appropriately. Nothing was done to the LCD glass sandwich itself.
This caused the bleed to disappear - details are in the post (link above).
Wondering whether the same/similar could be done with a bleeding RH display?
I don't think I have a spare working RH display unit here; both of them have dud electronics.
Maybe someone else could try it?

Re: Right hand display
Hi Chris
This started as a request for a working or repaired display.
I think we should find a suitable place in the technical section to continue the design and repair issues.
