Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

So why aren't the TD's fetching big £1k plus money then? Because most are running autoboxes
which may not go thew distance? That'd mean the manual TD versions were even more valuable
and sought after and yet that ebay 2.5 TD estate with cream leather isn't finding a new home
at £695 buy-it-now a day after listing?

well all moaning aside about siezed turbo's and no boot space it is a tidy car, it is a MK1.5 which in my favourite age and its a nice colour, not sure those wheels and other goodies are original Prestige spec mind but that is a plus really, it also runs on gas which (if it is a known gas system) is also a big plus, if all Xm's sold for this sort of money as a minimum the cars on the road would be sure of a secure future and the engines would be out of reach of the peugeot boys.
Prices are just too low for xm's at the moment that is the trouble.

For sure the fact a s1.5 Xm petrol turbo worth 400 quid WITH a working turbo
and bootspace is up to £1100 is purely down to the LPG fitment but it's all
wrong and smacks of shill bidding. That black LPG'd Xm Steelcityuk Steve had
was better and didn't touch this current eBay one on price.

Plus any minute now the duty on LPG is going to ramp up and match Derv and
unleaded so the more inefficient fuel will be as popular as a bonused up Bank CEO...

2.1 TD manuals are the most desireable, they enjoy a better reputation than the 2.5 TD. I enjoyed my brief encounter of the 2.5 TD engine, a really nice unit, putting my 2.1 Auto to shame. But I prefer the auto, the autobox really suits the XMs caracter, and mine too :D . If I was to have a manual XM as a daily runner it would have to be the 2.5, the hydraulic clutch and cable operated gearbox are such a delight to use, and I'm enjoying the same set up in the Activa now.

The manual SD was nice, it was quicker than the auto, but I found I drove it harder than the auto, and wasn't getting the best of the economy from it. For XM longevity and preservation, I'm glad my Si is a manual.

Robert - what happened to that smart looking s1 mandarin red 2.1 manual
- is that the one you're referring to that "drove harder than the auto"?

Hi Andrew,

That maroon car is the very same one I was referring to. It didn't become a victim of my hard driving thankfully. Its Ciaran's now.

When's the last time you saw a DERV XM with 65k on it???? The miles are in the turbos favour, and Im not convinced the blower is siezed... is would be soooo slow without a turbo.. I know because my Turbo TCT waste gate control arm came off the left the gate wide open the performance difference was very noticeable... so I have my suspisions..

You buy a DERV for ECONOMY more then anything else, in in true honesty now the 2.5 may well be very good and strong, but its not particullarly ecomonical is it!!?? 38 mpg ive been told?? Weres the cmparison when the 2.1 which if far far more simpler and easyer to work on can give you 45mpg WITH a manual box!

And to add to that, now Ive got a 2.1 manual XM the performance from it is pretty damm good! The in gear pull she gives is great fun... plus 45 mpg, I know which Id have now... Theres just one drawback from early DERV's they are not as refined as S2 cars... but thats a small drawback... once cruising its damm quiet for the age of the car..

Ever wanted to change a starter on a 2.5? I dont think you would - theres sooooo much in the way.. so, this is probably why the 2.5 isn't mooving..

About x2 years ago and showing 75k and I bought it despite it being an auto. God I hate autos fitted on Xm's - godawful stepped speed dependent rubbish. You're pretty much saying manual 2.1's are best as well as Peter and I can't say I disagree with you!!

Mind, the answer is an auto adaptive and I'm looking forward to actually trying a TD (yes I know; it's a diesel!!) Exclusive Xantia with one of these boxes. Should be a nice car judging by the V6 I've seen the same box work wonders on.

For 1100quid+ I'd expect a very good Xm and can't help feeling the one featured in this thread isn't it! Lovely colour, spec (barring the autobox) and condition but a battery and LPG tank filling the boot and suspect turbo? No way even at 65k miles. I paid £400 for that 75k mile W plated silver 2.1 VSX I've given my father - nice car, just couldn't live with the constant irritation of that autobox.

Funny you should say that. Before buying the manual I have, I tried an auto and it really put me off. The auto is noisy and cumbersome feeling, the manual just glides along with a lot less noise and effort.

I'm not against auto and diesel, my daily car is one, but very quiet and has an adaptive box that works and the diesel XM I had new was also an auto...just because I could.
