Thats the IDENTICAL Sister to my V6 SEi inside and out!!
Andrew, the 24v alloys, as we call them, were now standard on SEi's by this age, the BEST alloys they did!
What a great looking motor! WELL Worth the saving and NOT thrown away! In fact, she looks cleaner then my ole V6 really, but thats because the laquer on mine is all peeling across the front, thats both wings, nose cone, the bonnet, so much as I changed it for another.. makes her quite scruffy.. but inside the same..
Tim, its not the TOP side of the strut tops you need to look at, its how they look UNDER THE WINGS!!!! theres the real, pop or not clue!! The passenger sid eones looks like a recent one, from the top, but whats it like under the wing?
A PERFECT CATCH!
Nice!
Regards
Paul

Yes - I think it was sold new down Glastonbury way and later spent some time in Bristol before being sold recently to the chap I bought it from.Peter.N. wrote:I see it comes from down our way - Somerset reg.
When I pulled up to view it, it reminded me of a nice SED in town that used to wear a series 2 nose cone. When I saw the grille was series 1, I thought it couldn't be the same car. I do recall though that when I had spoken to the old owner in Bristol he said he intended to put the early nose on if he could find one.
Now, when I look at some old pics from Google street view, it looks remarkably similar (just the nosecone is changed).

Avalon garage sticker

Side window sticker

Sticker under rear wiper

And the reg ends with 'D'

The (possible) Bristol ex-owner loves his XMs and used to have them serviced by that Arnaud chap who used to work for a well known Citroen specialist in Oxfordshire.

The lower the price the more likely I'll go and look - less to lose that way!

I think that could well be the XM for sale in Bristol recently. I recall it had about 159k miles and the shiney steering wheel looks identical, I also remember the advert saying it had a broken glovebox latch and some paint damage on a door.
The nosecone was definitely changed back to a Series1 when it was run on the bay for the second time.
When finished it will be a gem of a car, right engine, right box, right series, right colour.
My second XM was an almost identical 2.1 SD...well apart from the wood, leather and wheels..
Have you decided what you're going to do with it.?

Spot on Dieselman - I'm convinced it's the same car. I was looking through the completed listings on ebay for the car, but it was too long ago. At the same time as the auction it also was listed for £495 in our local free ads paper.
As for what I'm going to do with - well, unless someone here wants it from me (for the same price I paid - £160) I'll be getting a pre-MOT check done. I might weld the front of the sill first - where the jacking point has folded - it's rotted out. I know it will need work to the NSF strut/hub/droplink/other as the knocking there is quite loud. May even have a clicking driveshaft there (noticed a slight noise on full lock) - but hopefully all confined to the one side.
I should also change the ATF ASAP I guess.

Looks like a lovely car, if you do decide to sell it at some point, I'd be very interested...

Re: SAVED! - 1993 2.1 SED Auto - MOT and Tax
Hee hee - got a nice new MOT on this yesterday. The previous weekend I did a quick welded repair on the sill / jacking point (in the rain - not recommended!) which I may well cut out later and make a prettier job of. Replaced the NS lower balljoint (VERY worn) and hoped that was it. My tester 'phoned me to say it had failed on the drop link (I knew I should have done it, but the balljoint was so bad I just assumed that was the source of the knocking!). As there were a pair of links in the boot, he fitted them both. Et Voila! MOT!
The tracking must be way out as the front tyres are very worn on the inner shoulder. There was an advisory for this, both lower wishbones (bushes looking tatty, but no play) and front brake hoses starting to crack.
Overall, not too bad. I thoroughly enjoy driving it - I'm afraid I'm now firmly in the 'auto is best' camp - provided the car is cheap enough to offset the risk of buying one.
I will need to get the tracking sorted before the tyres are rendered useless. The next job will be an ATF and filter change. Which reminds me - the dipstick for the 'box appears to be missing the 'sticky' bit.
However - I can see something metallic if I peer in the aperture where it sits. It looks like there is a kind of reservoir on the top of the box - if this comes off I hope to be able to retrieve the missing part and fix it - or perhaps get a more solid replacement that won't repeat the same trick.
There is also quite a leak from the crankshaft oil seal - but I can live with this. Perhaps fix it when the gearbox needs replacing?
