A serious 2.1?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Why do you need to worry about gearbox oil changes on a manual?? Not as critical as an auto surely!

That SX, LIG is new so it's been very recently re-registered, interesting.
I don't know this one, Newry though, it's right beside Robert...

Rob it's not that maroon one we discussed recently is it?

If I recall it had a personalised plate on it, which might explain the new registration...

I have never know a manual XM gearbox fail, and I have had two with around 300,000 miles. Just one of the reasons I don't like auto's

It's ok Peter ^^^^^
In my years and fair amount of miles covered I've only had two boxes fail, one of each!!

In general, auto's will always be short lived compared to manual gearboxes, other than BE3 gearboxes, which are on their limits used on a 2.0 petrol engine.

The XM really does suit an auto box though. Not sure if I would enjoy mine as much with a manual. Hopefully with repeated fluid changes I should get a decent mileage out of mine. Incidentally, mine is shifting better now than it ever has done since I bought it. Probably a sign of impending implosion knowing my luck. :)

I can see the good points of the auto in bigger cars, heck I have one myself! But the auto in an xm estate wouldn't suit me.
The manual box in mine can happily pull from 25-vMax without a problem. It's not fast until about 45-50 where the boost really kicks in but it still goes well enough :)

Must be because its petrol :D I have had seven or eight 2.1s with not a duff gearbox in sight. Manual boxes are much cheaper to repair or replace if you do have a problem though. Manuals I can repair myself but I don't think I would attempt an auto.
