H reg XM 2.1 SED is now ready to go

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Did it smoke more when accelerating?

Tuning these pumps is not hard.

No, no smoke at all. It certainly felt it had more torque. It revved more too. It seemed less held back if that's a way to describe it.
I believe this is what the mod is all about, improved torque, increased horsepower by 10 or so and improved fuel economy. But that wasn't guaranteed. I can't really say if that is true, as the grey car had a dicky fuel gauge. But it seemed very good on fuel.

It was about £350 of work in 2001.

I think it's the Lucas pump that lets it down somewhat. And how clear is the maintenance status here. Welding work fine but how about timing belt, spheres etc.

Cant people ask questions if they want to know!??

Cam belt done 10k, but could do with a swap with age, car did 2k a year over the last 8 years, and correct me if im wrong, not short jorneys, but arent older diesels suited to short journeys and not affected by "Engine wearing Mayo" that petrol engines suffer and cause early wear. Anyway, nearest shop is 6 miles...

Anyway. Car will be offered again with a SLIGHTLY lower price, but its not getting any lower, and not going to be a lower each week till sold style either.

Very true Paul, older ones get warmer quicker and don't suffer the fuel washing into the sump from short cold runs and not burning off due to the idi method they use.

GLWTS fella, it's a tough sales market out there.

Personally I would sort the AC and the rusty wheel arch, give it a damn good T cut and polish to see if that gets rid of the dull patches. Quick clean inside and out down at the local taliban, and re-advertise it with a 1 stuck on the front. £1795 sounds about right. 8-)
