Ebay XM Kettering

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

As it's a non runner it will be difficult to get onto a trailer or transporter. Cut some lenghts of 2" x 1" wood to 23" long and a couple of extra square size blocks as well. Cut some 1/2" or 3/4" ply to 4" square and take it all with you.

Jack the car up with a trolley jack and feed the long lengths in from the front of each front wheel so they block between the ARB and the bottom of the strut top and add the extra packing piece on top. (keep the weight on the front wheels from here on)

Jack the rear up and pull the inner wheel-arch liner at the front edge and feed the packing pieces into the subframe tube to block the suspension arms.

Your car will then go onto a transporter, like...and have turning steering...

This car is ridin' on wood...

Brilliant tip on getting it up off the floor, I was scratching my head thinking about how this might be done.

I shall go and look at the other forum and when I get it back take some pics and start a new thread.

Dean if you have parts drop me a message with costs inc P&P it would be great to get this back up and running super fast and then pick up were others have left off.

Just out of interest what sort of gadgets to Prestige's have? Perhaps more importantly what is likely to still work?!!

That car is advertised as everything working, including the sunroof.

The Presige got leather seats, but retained base model door cards and armrest, but that car has had leather doorcards fitted (possibly armrest too).

It has digital climate control instead of round dials and it also has cruise control.
I think the Prestige retained manual rear windows.
The rest of the spec is base "i" version.

With a Series 1 xm, I wouldn't be too bothered about spec, other than basic sack cloth seats.

No Cruise, digital info display or electric armrest or seats unfortunately unless retro-fitted over the years.
It will have the following, electric windows and mirrors, sunroof, digital climate and A/C, auto transmission, alloy wheels and ABS.

I've got some valves, camshaft, good cylinder heads X2, some ignition components, a compressor housing, turbo core with turbine and compressor wheels, plus a heap of other little bits but i should imagine all you require is the valves? need to do the autopsy first i would think before buying stuff or it could be a waste of money.

UK "Prestige" XM's seem to cause spec questions quite regularly.
As far as I remember Prestige was not a specific model type or spec standard in the UK.
It was used a number of times during the XM production run on quite different spec models.
As a particular model neared the end of production a few extras were added and it was branded as a "Prestige".
Effectively a marketing ploy to move on old stock.
The timing was I think 1991/2, 1993/4 and 1996/7.
In each case the year before the whole range of XM's were to be revamped.
I will look out the documentation if I can find it.
The use of the various XM model/spec names also varied with the country the cars were to be sold in.

Ah cool

Lots to learn most of the cars I play with still have a cranking handle!

I can't believe there are so few left, they still seem like ralively new cars to me. I suppose they could be nearly 30 years old now. I really fancy a nice ID or early DS but will have to wait till I sell my beetle cabriolet. Dead chuffed with this purchase I intend to use it too, I like to enjoy using my cars

As a kid all the posh GS and CX cars were called 'prestige' shame they devalued the name in an attempt to shift the stock.
