That 2.1 is back on again

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I remember it now. I nearly had a punt on that but bought an A class instead. Nice looking XM.

It's your own fault Peter. You keep going on about how good they are - now everybody wants one

I dont think I'm the problem, well not in that respect anyway :D they are just not available in the numbers that they were a few years ago and there are probably the same number of people chasing less and less cars. I used to buy one, run it until something serious went wrong and then replace it - you can't do that now, I wouldn't have even considered doing a head gasket on one a few years ago, and now, I'm just about to embark on my second, like land, there not making any more.

I'm a bit unsure about the series 1 but if you want a 2.1 it may be the safer bet pump wise.

Do you really think some muppet would run it dry.

You could be right George, engine out and into a 406 say and scrap the rest?

That one of yours looks a cracker!

What do you make of the Mk 1s?

They're getting to be a bit thin on the ground.

I know of a 2.1 Manual S2 SX near me, but its really really rough, been a farmer's car, and you can tell. Its sitting in the yard of the local Citroen Specialist, it went there after failing its MOT on a few things, most serious being a leaking rear brake caliper supply pipe. It could be MOT'd again easily enough. The car has 175k on the clock. But the car isn't worth bothering with. That 2.5 thing I bought is in much better condition, and its far from being perfect!

Series 1 cars are fine in my opinion. Paul is a big fan of the Series 1.5 cars, Peter a big fan of Series 2 cars, and so it goes on.

We all have our own opinions on them, so the best thing is to go and get one, and form your own opinion on them!

I would have thought that there were more Mk1 manual 2.1s about than Mk2s, I cant remember the last time I saw a Mk2 for sale, mind you there are precious few 2.1 manuals of any age. I do have to admit though that the bodies are generally in better condition on the early ones, I couldn't see a spot of rust on the one at Bridgwater. Two of mine are a bit frilly round the edge of the back wings, nothing serious but makes them look tatty, will get round to painting them - one day.

OK I'll admit it, I bought the 2.1 SED in maroon.

It's quite interesting to note peoples opinions on how much it raised. I've voiced my opinion that XMs aren't worth big money (£2000 upwards for me) but I think that less than £800 for a big comfy 'rare' car that I like is fine. I bet it's easy to spend over that going out over the course of the year and I don't get out much...

Will it take long to get the engine out and swapped over?

I'm thinking along the lines of the XM for the Summer and the A Class for the Winter months.

Just planning the trip now.

Excellent Steve,

The car is going to be in good hands then. Its a lot of car for the money.

So a summer car only. Good plan, my Si is a summer car, well weekends, rallies etc, I never use it daily.

Keep us posted with progress.
