Don't get too excited!
This is very VERY nice though:

the elastoplast beige adds that unique frenchness to it - damn it's straight too!
But this is even better!! A break:

Check out that dash!!

A truly fabulous car the GS. I now realise I'm suffering from bad withdrawal symptoms.

I'd love to try a GS out, but it looks too small. And the CX doesn't have the biggest amount of interior space either!

These are lovely!
Good value too - I'm sure that similar condition GSs in the Uk would be selling at considerably higher prices than that these days.

Hmmmm I remember when looking for my first car 16 years ago sitting in a GS Estate, and remember the dash handbreak, but the style of the car put me off a bit - WELL I was a young 17 year old! Back then though, I did NOT know enough about Citroen to take the plunge.
Could have been a GSA Estate, I think it was an 1985 B reg model.
Oh and incidentally, I was going through magazines last night, and in a Top Gear Mag, they had a short 2 page article, called "Ten Dire Dash's" and yes the GS dash was there.
Others off top of my head, Porsche 928, Lancia, Audi, BRG, amonsgst a couple others. I should scan it, and doo a poll..

Both are gorgeous, particularly the beige saloon.
I so must fix mine, I feel terribly guilty about it languishing in bits, but at least it's dry and not going anywhere...
In my opinion the G is a superior car to the CX; apart from (relatively) poor economy and rustability they are close to perfection. No small car since has come close to their brilliance.

Arguably a better enthusiast's driving experience than a Cx! Ergo a Cx is better than an Xm...
YES! As an engineering masterpiece the Gs IS better than the CX. It does all the Cx does in a smaller space using a
genuine from the ground up rethink of any baggage/preconceived ideas and using a bespoke engine - something
the Cx cannot boast! It drives like a sportscar and the size is a true strength not a disadvantage. The boot is massive
and square and every bit as good as a Cx saloon but with a superb access opening and low lip. All it ever needed
was a 2.0i flat four!! That would be immense even today with it's superb non assisted but sharp and light steering,
peerless ride and unbelievable handling. Now one with ARCS...
I'd love that beige one and these are very nice (and very cheap) from not that long back either:
Dammit, I 'ache' to get one of mine going again!!

Andrew, to take us further off topic, would you like a (good condition) flat four Subaru engine I happen to have access to? I 'think' it is 1.8, and if you want it it's yours for nowt. There would be the potential for hours of fun fitting it to a G...

It's not off topic - this thread is talking about G's!!
I've been loitering around Subaru engines for a while with this idea in mind so I'd be a fool not
to jump at the chance - heaven knows what the deal with the gearbox would be mind! I guess
if it's available it wouldn't hurt to have a damn good prod about the thing. I've heard stories
of an Alfa boxer 1500 being doctored to fit but this is more likely the carbs rather than the
full engine. I don't know enough about this side of things on a G much to my annoyance!

Great stuff! Even if nothing comes of the idea, once you have the engine in front of you it should become apparent how difficult the task would be. One possibility could be to use the gearbox from a VW T25 transporter for which an adapter plate is available, although you'd have to turn the diff over so as to avoid 1 forward and 5 reverse gears...
EDIT: scratch the VW gearbox idea, you'd end up with no front brakes
It's a shame the gearbox isn't there too, as the best solution may be to cut the bellhousing off a G gearbox and weld on the Subaru bellhousing.
Do you ever have course to visit Liverpool or Durham (where the engine currently is)?
Otherwise I intend to make Stratford this year, and possibly the National at Gaydon...
