That's got Peter's name written all over it - west country green s2 estate manual!

Mind, it's not £150!!
The forum he certainly seems to have had sympathy pains with FCF that's for sure.
They're cranky just like Citroens are too

I think if you look

again its a 2.5TD along with the others where it was pointed out in
THIS thread (A bit like buses) !
If it was a 2.1 TD Estate MANUAL , I think Peter might have been doing 'Cartwheel's' by now

Why is a 2.1 preferable to a 2.5?

Damned if I know, the 2.5's a great engine! PeterN doesn't like the underbonnet complexity of them compared to the 2.1.
I'd say the 2.5 drives like a petrol 2.5 and is probably the ONLY diesel I'd give garage room to!

Hi All
Will watch it with interest to see if it sells.
Came close to asking a few questions until I noticed "dealer fitted aircon at 1000 miles".
Quite a few 1995/6 XM 2.5 estates had this done to meet individual customer demand.
Strangely there was a shortage in the midst of overproduction.
Lots of bog standard 2.5 VSX non aircon estate's unsold in the UK so factory made to special order (aircon/leather/alloys) was not allowed.
Dealers solved this by retrofit of unsold stock if it made a sale.
The results could be good but were often far short of factory standard.
Most trim mods were just seats not door panels or carpets.
The aircon was usually manual switch controlled and not integrated with the climate control.
This one may of course be full factory spec but to me not worth the trouble of checking at £500 starting bid.

Hi,

Not really it's just Peter's preference (If you've ever come across his posts, you'll tend to see) I personally prefer the 2.5 TD Saloon/Hatchbacks IMHO there for winners, I have two (a VSX with 220k and Exclusive with only 39k)
Super smooth hydraulic clutch, superb performance and decent economy (If driven normally) win/win situation.
I see you've revised your Wanted ad in your other post/thread, so you've seen the light to avoid 'Sluggo-matic's' !
cgt wrote:Title edited, I want a manual now for the better mpg

But
cgt wrote:Thanks Andrew but I am TOTALLY non technical. I don't know a thing!
I'll look for one that's drivable..

So if that's the case, go and price up a clutch cable for a 2.1 TD and if you have to pay some-one to replace it too, well you may decide to forget searching for one of them also !
Also get a price for the front suspension strut's top too, either (Small or large piston/rod) types
That's if your checking out the cable @ the main dealer's as the front suspension strut's top are only O/E supplied, it may frighten you all together in owning any guise of XM
All the best with your search/decision.

I don't see any reason not to get a 2.5TD either. I have a 2.1 and a 2.5, and for routine maintenance, they're on a par. All the filters are in the same place. You have to be equally vigilent when looking after the cooling systems on both models.
I wouldn't want to entertain changing a head gasket on either of them! In fact any major surgery wouldn't be fun on the diesels.
Granted there is more room in the engine bay of the 2.1, but its still cramped. If you want loads of room in your engine bay buy a 2.0 8V Petrol.
In terms of reliability, my 2.1 has been perfect since the HG was changed on it. It is still early days to compare my 2.5 to it, although that wouldn't be fair. My 2.5 has 95k more miles than the 2.1 had when I bought it.

Its not that I have anything against driving the 2.1 but I do a lot of miles and can be pretty confident that I will get 300k+ from a 2.1 engine without the likelyhood of having to spend a lot of money on it
