XM 2.5 Diesel VSX Estate Manual 1995 “M” Reg

Tax until the end of October

Test until May 2011

Metallic red.

124500 miles (and rising because I am using it)

Location: between Darlington and Stockton, close to Durham Tees Valley airport and Darlington mainline station.

I bought this car less than three weeks ago because I didn’t want to buy another Multipla and because my other XM is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. However, the tactic didn’t work and I am having to spend a large chunk of dosh to regain marital harmony.
Let’s make no bones about it; externally the car is scruffy, because the lacquer has lifted all over the place and there are a couple of bits of plastic trim broken or missing. On the other hand, the interior is very tidy with no undue wear visible; the load area has not been abused. There are no tears or burns; it does not appear to have been a smoker’s car at any point in its recent history. All the electric windows work, as does the sun roof!
My first journey was from London to Darlington and since then I have also been to Sheffield and back and Hull and back in it. I am away to Gloucestershire in it this week-end. Over 1000 miles trouble free travelling in two weeks! It has loads of power, a smooth gear change and does not appear to smoke at all. Fuel consumption has been around 37-42 dependent upon haste.
There is quite a lot of service history and the ride is as it should be. 8 spheres have recently been replaced and it is currently running on hydraflush and there don’t appear to be any leaks from the hydraulics. It had a full service and coolant flush in June this year.
Other than flaky appearance, there are only a few issues: a random ABS light, and central locking weaknesses on the rear passenger side door and the tail gate; if the “plip” doesn’t work the button/ key does. A new pair of number plates would improve the appearance.

I paid £750 for it (plus £100 train fare and diesel to fetch it) and would like to recover as much of this as possible, money now having been spent elsewhere…

I shall be back home on Sunday afternoon so please pm me if you are interested or have any further questions.

Rob

Well, I am back from doing aother 600 miles in the old dear this week-end and I have today taken delivery of family car number 4 and so the pressure is building to reduce the fleet. I shall leave it open to offers from Citroenistes for a day or two before opening it up to a wider public. As it stands, it is good to go, but tax and my insurance run out at the end of the month.

Well, there's ben no interest from my earlier posts but it needs to go from out the front. I will listen to any offers otherwise the local Manheim auction beckons at the end of next week.

Last Chance on this one.

I have just used the car this morning and it started first time after being left for several days while I have been away. It is far from perfect as previously mentioned (in addition to faults previously mentioned, it appears to be dripping a little oil from the sump gasket) but it is cetainly useable, economical and very comfotable.

There is six months of test left and tax until the end of the month. It is booked for disposal on Monday but if you want to make me an offer, do so.

Hi Rob

Sorry there is no interest, if it had been a 2.1.... I reckon ebay is the best place to sell, millions of people looking.

When you say booked for disposal, is that the auction place you mention or a scrapman!?
I'd love it but must reduce numbers myself, though could succumb at a price!! :D

"Disposal" at the moment means the local auction, but it is a very expensive way of selling a car. My problem is that I really wanted it to go to a new owner before tax and my insurance run out. I suppose I could keep it a while longer and remove the window mechanisms for my other XM; it's well shod too. Then the only way to go would be the scrapper and there really is no reason why it should end up there before it has given a lot more service.
I am surprised that there hasn't been more interest, but that's a fact of life. I'm clearly going to lose a fair bit of money on the car whatever way it goes, but that will balance the good deals I have managed in the past.

Ebay is still your best bet for a quick and certain sale, the car will make exactly what its worth which is likely to be more than from a local auction - unless they put the cars on the internet.
