Urgently need replacement Boscch injection pump for 2.5td. Diesel specialist wants £1000 to recon mine as he suspects chip fat and /or bio diesel in pump may have caused the excessive wear. Not looking for gift, but at this point in the project, funds are getting low.
Can anybody help - URGENTLY?

Is it a VE Pump? They are a piece of cake to refurb and reseal at the tender cost of around £15 for the seal kit

I was about to sugest CitroJim over on FCF... He's a Bosch fuel Pump wizard..
I know the 2.5 Pump is different to the Xantia one, but I bet you he could do it for the price of parts!!!
A grand, were the F do these people get their prices!!

Trouble appears to be the amount of wear on the internals, not just the seals, hence the (agreed!) silly price. My thinking is that they don't want the job! Brian

Have they diagnosed wear? Jim will know better than I but as far as I know, veg or bio gunges up and perishes the seals, rather than causes excessive wear. The veg oil also leaves a 'varnish' in the pump that goes very hard and also helps to block things up. I expect that all the cr@p in the pump has indeed caused certain parts to stop working, giving the impression of excessive wear, but mechanically the Bosch pumps are more or less bullet proof. However, I only know the Bosch VE as used on the XUD 1.7, 1.9 and 2.1 variants.
Do you know the 'breed' of Bosch pump you have? Any part numbers?

Hi Paul
Was there a diesel pump fitted on the engine that came over from Robert.
If so and you are willing to recover and post it then offer it on to Brian please.
John

Yep there was, approx 160K miles, and working fine before the car came off the road.
