Gearbox blew up at the weekend. Done 170k. All the toys work including the headlamp washers. I don't want to store and since it is 150 miles away from me I am looking to pass on for a little cash. Car is in Kinghorn and really should be saved being a 99 plate and in pretty good nick. Tyres all good on centerless alloys. Engine excellent and has lpg kit fitted although I may wish to remove that.

Car now sold to a forum member so at least it may be ressurected or if not then used to keep another xm on the road. Every cloud as they say.

I've spoken to Assich today and have sorted everything out with him.

I'm going to collect the car from it's current parking space on Saturday.

David.

I will be interested to see how this one turns out. I am still keen to go for a bigger engined model of XM, but I want everything to work, so I found a knackered autobox a bit off-putting :(

Good luck in sourcing a new box.

I wouldn't be suprised if D is planning to stick a manual box on it. On the other hand, he likes everything 100% original. Hmmm I don't know...

I'm not sure what the plans are for the car yet.

First job is to get the car on the ramp and have a good poke around underneath it and judge it's condition, cills etc. Reading Assich's posts in the past I expect it to be a nice car.

If the condition of the car is good then I'll be looking to get this gearbox reconditioned. I'm hoping that following the dismantling guide from CitroJim that I'd be able to do that myself. Apparently a Xantia or 406 Coupe box will constantly flag up fault codes causing the sports and snow lights to be on all the time.

If the car isn't in great condition underneath or is likely to give problems come MOT time then I'm going to strip it for spares parts. The parts will be used to keep my 2000 V6 on the road as it has a weep from a pipe that's no longer available from Citroen, also things like the leather interior I'd use in the 2.5 that I'm looking at.

I'm not really interested in a manual conversion as you'd need to change the pedal box, gear selectors, drive shafts, etc etc and it's just not worth the hassle I don't think.

Will see how we get on, initially I want to preserve the car though as it is a very late V6 in the lovely mauritius blue!

David.
