Hi Guys

I have a well battered series 1.5, 2.1td estate.

Tonight when doing the tyre pressures a quick glance up at the bottom of the strut top showed the rubber to be splitting and failing although the metal all appears sound.

So i'm after a RH strut top suitable for 22mm piston.
anyone have one lying around that htey want some Christmas spending money for.

Even an old one so I can send it to be reconditioned without immobilising the car

Thanks

Chris

Had a visit from John....xmexclusive this evening bearing the gift of a new strut top. And mightily impressed I am aswell

Big apologies John, got carried away with chatting didn't even offer you a cup of tea.

So 20 mins after john left Bernie, my XM has had his hip replacement, used it to go to work this evening and what a difference, the old mount was obviously dodgy for a while the steering tracked nice a true and the power on/off steering it showed has all gone.

Anyway a few pics, first 2 are old mount you may be able to make out the splits

Looks good, please keep us informed.

Those splits don't look too bad...

They looked a lot worse in person. not a great deal holding it together

Seems the photos have been cropped a bit when they attached, I'm not as bad a photographer as it seems

There was lots of play in the mount when taking it off, and reversing and braking caused the sphere to hit the bulkhead.

If you click onto 'View image' with the right hand mouse button (If its set up for R/H mode) the photo's will show up the full-size (Un-cropped) photo you took !

They are perfectly FINE compared to the two I took off my 2.1 SED.... When i was removing my tops the metal part for the sphere mount was movable in my hand! Ive taken a video of this to show how bad...

Infact the top had popped slightly and was resting on the Lip just above the sphere (Drivers side)

Unfortunally, bad weather and lack of time has frustratingly put a halt to my resto work.. :( :( :x

The sphere was only about 1mm away from the bulkhead lip when the car was parked, normally it sat about 15mm away. so it was pretty goosed

As it does again now
