As title listing (R724 JKV) spotted for sale on AUTO-TRADER looks like a decent motor !

As its a private sale, is it a forum members XM by any chance ?

:D

Next time I spot an XM advertised on Auto-trader I must remember to copy and paste the description and more important the PRICE !

As it IS now being re-advertised by a TRADER on E-BAY (Who is also a forum member) ;)
(It's a pity the Auto-trader link's Go-dead once the vehicles sold unlike on E-Bay) !

The head gasket was blown, the Hydractive didn't work, the suspension was hard even with recent spheres, the interior suede was wearing and some other bits.
Everyone said don't buy a 2.1td that needs a head gasket, it's a job too far...I've done two now...!!

It was also a series 2 car...

XM were a lot cheaper then, but I should've had it really.

Have you done the EGR later type though Will? I did my H plater and it was fine to do..

Ive not done a EGR one yet though...

I've done both types. The EGR pipe is a real pain in the ass if doing the job with the head still fitted.

Malcolm at savoy says cut the turbo oil return pipe and lift the head and manifolds off together.

But a valuable piece of advice, I would reckon, if you're looking at a job like that!
I don't know Malcolm but I think I bought something off him at the ICCCR for a very good price. (could be confusing him with another kind citroenian) Anyway, it's a very good tip from an expert but I still hope not having to change head gaskets on a diesel since it has already been replaced with a better type. Once it's properly done they shouldn't fail unless you've got cooling problems.
