Last night I experienced a big crack followed by a bouncy ride, this morning I found my push rod has snapped off at the button end, penetrated the gaiter. On removal and further examination the misaligned rod has split the piston which in turn has damaged the cylinder.

So complete assembly now required asap, I am now without suitable transport and need to move myself and stuff around.

If it's the same I have one on a subframe, but am not really in a position to be dealing with it.

In your position I would phone Manuel at Woodlinkin, he will probably have one as he buys cars to scrap for parts.

Estate and hatch cylinders are different. Estate ones are the same throughout production. Hatchback cylinders changed around facelift time and should be replaced in pairs if there is any doubt.

Hi Robert, IIRC the 2.5 hatchback uses the larger rear suspension cylinders (i.e. the same size as the estates) ,
John may hopefully verify this ?

XMas, I had that happen to an 'L' Reg. Estate that I owned once, but as it happened on my driveway I didn't drive it until I got it repaired !
Also IIRC the cylinder was undamaged and I bought two second hand ones from an 'S' reg.2.1TD Estate, but I'm not sure if I let the second one go (As spare) with the vehicle when I sold it I'll have a quick look in the garage tomorrow !

But in the mean time, get a price/availability from THIS-ONE @ Pease Pottage being broken by 'Bridges' if still available ?

If I have not got one available and the one /\ has gone to meet its maker there's stock available @ WHM !

I will reserve my personal comments on Cardinal Palace Chariots, I shall also eave saloon owning readers to draw their own conclusions when they view the grotty specimens on ebay for a kings ransom and excessive postage, why are they are more expensive than a new one from AEP?

I think what XMas is stating /\ , that they shall not be parting with their hard earned 'Wonga' to purchase one from WHM !

The new saloon/hatchback one from AEP and the grotty ones from WHM

Anyhow I remember this Estate being broken on E-BAY recently , although the listing has ended there's a telephone contact number in the advert (Worth a phone call)

Rear cylinder sizes.

All Mk1 cars - 35mm piston size.
All Mk2 cars - 37mm piston size.
All Estates - 42.5mm piston size.
Cylinders come in Hydractive and Non H pipe connections.
A lot of the ebay NOS offerings turn out to be the Non H small pipe connection.
No use for the UK vehicles unless you are will to get them drilled out and rethreaded.

Just for the record front strut sizes.
Early and late Mk1's cars and estates - 22mm strut rod with 40mm piston size.
Some interchangability restrictions (to tell the difference early have 2 strut rod LHM holes late 1 LHM hole).
Mk2 cars and estates (XU10J2, XU10J4R & XUD11A) - 22mm strut rod (single LHM hole) with 40mm piston.
Mk2 cars and estates (XU10J2TE, ZJP, XUD11ATE, DK5ATE) - 25mm strut rod with 40 mm piston.

This information was taken from the 1995 Model Year Supplement to the Citroen Workshop Manual.
I have serious doubts that the use of 25mm strut rods was applied to any UK XM's except 2.5TD's until late 1996.
