Sadly not an option here in the UK with a Series 2 V6 24v!! Regards, Matthew T.

Indeed, it seems odd really that it wasn't an option. I'm hoping to find a P1 as I think they look better, but I have been told its nigh on impossible.

Has anybody ever retro fitted a manual box into a phase 2?

Not aware that anyone has done the XM conversion to either type of Mk2 V6 engine.
Should not be that difficult though.
The early type Mk2 V6 engine is the same as used in the Mk1 V6 12v.
Two choices here:
ME5 box and 235mm wire operated clutch as used in the Mk1 12v manuals -
(boxes with correct ratios are rare and why break up a good rare Mk1).
MG5 box and 242mm hydraulic clutch as used in the 2.5TD -
(box will have wrong ratios might be costly to sort).
The later Mk2 V6-24v engine mates with the ML5 box and 242mm hydraulic clutch-
(box and hydraulic clutch are slightly different to the 2.5TD bits).
(some UK RHD Pugs got this drive train 406 coupe but why destroy a rare car).

I never really understand it when people say they intend to perform a conversion from one model to another, as that conversion will cost a fair amount of money and time, so it would be cheaper to just buy the correct car initially.

Having said that, I converted one XM into a pile of parts... :D

If you're serious about getting one then keep an eye out in France. Not too long ago I spotted a Series 2 XM 24V which did indeed have a Manual Gearbox. They're out there although certainly on the rare side...

I don't know why you'd want a manual with the V6. It's never going to be a racing car; better to treat it as a refined yet nimble mile-eater.

Wanna Bet Adam... Try a Series 1 V6 24v with a manual box! They ARE a racing car... :P :D :D

That is a fair point
