As title listing (P205 JDT) spotted on E-BAY with only 51,474 miles, supposedly one owner (However listed as having two previous ones) :?
E-Bay Seller wrote:Description:-

The Citroen XM has a superb pedigree. It was the replacement for the wonderful CX which in turn had replaced the DS and as such, has the unsurpassed smooth ride quality that is the preserve of large executive Citroens.

The XM is destined to be a future classic and this example will be one of the very best left on the road.

It was bought new by an elderly gentleman in Rotherham from a local dealer in November 1996 and used by him for 15 years until his death in 2011 when it had only covered 51000 miles. He mainly used the car to go down to the local supermarket with his wife to get the weekly shopping and to tow their caravan on their annual holiday although it is over five years since the car was used to tow the caravan.

When he died, his widow registered the car into her name and left it in the garage unused until July this year when she asked her next door neighbour to help her sell the car. He registered the car into his name and took it for an MOT inspection where it passed without problem after replacing a rear light bulb.

The car now has an MOT until September 2013 and is ready for everyday use.
Looks a nice example for someone with £3K to spare if you like white ?

It might be worth £3k just to buy it and 'Patent' the 'Real hand-brake' which it seems to have been retro fitted with and then reproduce a kit to flog 'world-wide' to us other XMr's with the normal foot operated type

Note ! no full climate control, shame :(

All the best if a forum member secures it (Obviously waaaaaaay to much for Peter N) ?

Hi Will, I noticed also much earlier just after my tea, but I had go out so I hadn't got the time to post up that it had been Sold !

Anyhow the other main concern I wanted to point out to anyone thinking of buying this XM (I hope its not too late if its a forum member) which I found about this XM, via 'Check your vehicle’s MOT status and history on-line' click this LINK to open (then input the info in field requested).

 I always ask anyone who's selling a car for the Document reference number from V5C registration certificate (Note that been erased from the photo shot for this vehicle) or if that's not available, the MOT test number from the VT20 test certificate (So that I can check out the MOT info/history) and satisfy myself that a vehicle is honestly described etc; before wasting my own time/fuel and the sellers time too (Before even a viewing) !

For this XM, the info can be easily be accessed because the E-Bay seller/vendor has kindly posted up details of the current MOT which give out the MOT test number from the VT20 test certificate as '499221852215' so with that info and the reg. number (P205 JDT) you can get the history/status of the last few years of VOSA stored of MOT's of the dates/mileages and more important any fails or advisories about a vehicle (Select the 'MOT History Check' field for the full info in the link /\ ) !

It can be seen that this XM did fail for a registration plate bulb being out (Which was stated in the advert/listing) but no mention of the advisory (And NOT shown listed in the Photo shot) which was issued for the last/current MOT :- 'Underbody heavily undersealed' :?

If you check out the MOT history for the MOT test on 08/10/2009 (Odometer reading @ 50,640 Miles) and then the MOT history for the MOT test on test on 20/09/2010 (Odometer reading @ 51,320 Miles) and read the advisories stated, may be the reason to the Under-body having a 'heavily application of under-seal' (Presumably fairly recently too) ?

If anyone off the forum has tentatively bought this XM, the first thing I'd do is to get this advisory/issue checked over before parting with any cash !

All the best to the new owner !

:)

MOT advisories are always reports of faults not comments.
The fault will be of insufficient magnitude to cause the examiner to grade as fail.
In this case I believe the examiner was stating that the unusally thick amount of underseal prevented a full bodyshell assessment of critical areas.

Now for sale again on e-bay with 63,000 miles. Near Pocklington. Still has the corrosion on rear mounts that showed up in the 2009 MOT and beyond. Offside front strut mount has usual corrosion on top, nearside is clean on top but with a little delamination of the rubber viewed from underneath. Didn't check everything, sunroof not opened in a long time, wing mirror adjustment non functional, offside steering rack gaiter shot. The car passed an MOT same day as I saw it (last week), with only advisories on both side steering rack gaiters and the rear mount corrosion but I could see the innards of the inboard track rod ball joint without even touching it, albeit on full lock, so I wonder what else might have been missed by the MOT. All in all a pretty decent car but still near 20 years old, price now too rich for me at over 1400

So this "appreciating future classic" has lost just over 50% of its value in just over 3 years! :?

...unlike the cruise control switch, which seems to have sprouted a carbuncle.
