1995 Citroen XM 2.1TD Manual VSX Estate Low Mileage in Metallic Magenta red.

65,000 Miles
Full documented service history
MOT January 2013
Tax until end November 2012

Unfortunately the car has a blown headgasket. There has not been signs of HG failure before now, it has never used any coolant in our ownership and has not stored pressure. However after I returned from a short trip in the car last week I went to check over its fluid levels and upon releasing the coolant cap it pushed a lot of water out. It pressurises quite quickly now too. The car has not lost water during driving and so has not overheated. There doesn't seem to be a mix of oil and water, however im not 100% certain, so perhaps its on the exhaust side. I would not recommend driving the car as it is, as it does build pressure quite quickly.

I would rather the car was sold as is for a project. If it doesn't sell it will be repaired by a Citroen indy and be readvertised at the original price.

Advert as before:

Recently serviced
Recent: Front Michelin tyres, front brake discs and pads, sphere pressures checked - rides superbly.
Rear tyres are very good Vredestein Sportrac3s.

Brand new front bumper chrome strip (not in pictures)
New Stainless Steel door chrome strips just fitted (not in pictures)

Usual VSX spec with optional alloy wheels and Citroen mudflaps (fronts are new)

Has complete and unmarked carpet boot floor liner and both pacel shelves.

Both dash LCD displays work without fault.

Bosch fuel pump

Cambelt kit and water pump fitted at 58,000 miles

First owned by Citroen UK for the first two years, then owned until 2008 by one owner. Bought by us a year later.

Owned for the past three years, reluctant sale due to trying to downsize on car numbers. This one does not get enough use.

It drives superbly and is in excellent condition throughout.

Bad bits:
- Sunroof is very stiff and does not slide back
- Paintwork on top of boot lid has lacquer pealing
- windscreen is whitening at the edges, not an MOT problem
- Headgasket issues

Otherwise, for its age it is in very good condition.

£600..

Crappy head gaskets. I had to to the head gasket on a 70K mile 2.1 a few years ago.

Replace with a laminate gasket and it will go on for long enough.

Thats a real shame thats happened Chris, but it does show, low miles, lots of care does NOT mean anything will last well for a lot longer. In some ways its better its gone now while you have it and not days after someone had bought her..

Be sure a Multi layer metal gasket is fitted upon repair..

What a shame..

I did 2 x 2.1 TD head gaskets this year. Laminate each time.

Thanks for the advice, if it comes to getting it repaired I will make sure it has a laminated HG. I would rather it sold as it is now, so if anyone is after a project ...

It is a shame Paul and also the first blot on our XM ownership! However, yes, it is much better to have gone now and not with a new owner.

Oh yes, I wouldn't hesitate now! The HDi has them from factory, and with sucess.. The old 1.9 XUD's always were sorted for life once they became available for those... so yes, any XM I do from now will have one..

If I was cleared out and had room, then it would be a perfect project, but Im up to the top of my head with IT ALL NOW, so, not for me

Robert, the miles make her a good potential money maker!!

It has the potential for that, but I don't have the time or inclination for big projects like this.
