Well done! to my mind the 2.1 manual is the best of the bunch and one of the rarest for that year. You managed to get it for less than the £10,000 did you? :D

Just a little, he had put too many 0's on and I bargained down too :)

Needs work, but it ticked all the boxes my wife and I were looking for, Mk2, diesel, manual, good bodywork / no rust, velour, low miles :) even the sunroof is in excellent nick with no rust!

The only concerns for me are the strut tops, no rust as such but there is some perishing of the rubber, is this an issue? It will need a cambelt / water pump and probably some spheres as it has not moved for some time.

And the two windows are not working / dropped down, cables you think?

Excited is not the word!!!!

That's brilliant, a lovely project for the spring :D

Nothing sounds too difficult there...

Did you get the little deer thrown in as part of the deal?

:D Not sure on that one! As long as it has not made contact with the car I am happy :D Some years ago my father had a deer jump into the side of his Omega, left hoof marks and all! Took quite a bit of panel work to make it straight again.

Yeah I don't think it will need a huge amount to sort it out, priority is the cambelt and pump so that the engine is 'safe', then fluids, hydraurincage if I can get some locally, if not then a little paraffin should start to break down the settled detritus. The front height adjuster is a little sticky but the rear one seems fine. I will get pictures as soon as it is delivered :)

Kind regards,

J

Well done and welcome to XM ownership. as Jim says, all sounds quite normal!...will be a good project.

I did see this listing the other day, and did a double take at the £10K asking price. It was the deer posing as an XM that also caught my eye!

I thought of you when I saw it advertised, though I thought Auto was your preference.

You can get Hydraflush from GSF, but just put a cup of diesel in the tank and leave it to work.

For the strut tops, perished rubber on the top side is nothing to worry about but raise the body so the wheels hang and check for the underside having come loose.

All in, for a Series 2, that looks a decent car.

:) Thanks Dieselman, I thought of me too :D

My mind is running on the same tracks as you with the diesel, although I was going to put paraffin in, around 10%?

I will start poking around as soon as I am home in the daylight, which will be friday. It will be up in the air for a cambelt and waterpump change, so I will have wheels off and the car up in the air, perfect for some strut top inspection.

I will check the front subframe too, and possibly waxoil it?

That and a very good wash and polish :)
