Why not contact him and ask if it'd be OK for you to bid?
I've regularly done so over years contacting foreign sellers and rarely been refused.
Especially if you appear to be a genuine bidder and have decent feedback etc etc.
Failing that, I'm sure one of us here could act as an intermediary if he's that sad?

No problem fitting a single spoke to a Mk 1.5 with a double spoke which is what i did with my previous xm
