2.1 TD pistons needed

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

2.1 TD pistons needed

Post by milcor » Mon May 13, 2013 2:23 am

Where can I pick up a set of oversize pistons complete for my
1995 2.1 TD XUD 11ATE P8B engine which is at the machine shop?

Im not 100% sure for the TD but i know citroen never made o/s pistons for its tct engine only repair rings, i think its either aftermarket forged jobbies which were easy to find for the tct in 3 sizes but were £600 or have the blco bored out sleeved to suit your original pistons.

Thanks Dean,
The spares manual lists pistons for the XM 2.1 TD or Pug 406 TD as:
Standard 062884;
+0.25mm 0628885;
+0.60mm 062886.

Resleeving is an option

Interesting, Citroen told me they did not do oversize pistons for the tct. if that is true and they dont its a bit stupid as the tct would need a re bore before a 2.1 would.

My guess is it would be a dealer only part and being in aus you would be stung double.

"and being in aus you would be stung double."
Ha. Nail on head.
Mine is a private import from the UK and the only 2.1TD in Oz.
More chance of finding pistons in the old dart, I think.

Is it definitely the only 2.1td in Aus? Didn't Shane have one and what about Xantia and Peugeot 406 and 605 models?

Maybe getting a 2nd hand engine might be simpler.

I bought Shanes.
But yes, Pug and Xantia are options also.
More chance of finding a dunny in a duststorm.
Have sourced an engine in the uk but freight is the killer.
Also any second hander would be 13 years old minimum and I would still have to reco it.

I've never heard of an XUD engine needing pistons. The bottom ends normally see the car away and more.

What happened, did it get seriously overheated?

No overheating.
I'm told by my engineer that the bores corrode if left idle in damp conditions for too long. Also if head gasket leak not fixed straight away.
These pics are interesting in that the original factory cross hatch honing is visible along with the rust where the pistons have been parked for too long in the one spot.

But I do agree that this engine is nearly indestructable.
They last longer than a dingo's dangler.

BTW, thanks for all the offers for assistance from UK Citroneons.
It's reassuring to know one is not the only 'crazy french car guy' around.

Also I found excellent service and keen prices from 'King Components' Liverpool.
Piston prices ranged from
600 quid each (Citroen genuine) to 85 quid ea, and five prices inbetween
