xm front windscreen required

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I had a screen taken off a car which then cracked while being loaded into my boot. The same company fitted a new screen for just over £100 so my advice would be to go down that route!! Regards, Matthew T.

Agreed. The cost of salvaging one against the cost of a new one isn't worth the hassle in my opinion.

I dissagree.
There is no garentee about the continued availability of new glass.
I accept that insurance windscreen replacements where available are the correct route for most needs.
The potential problem is that all policies have a get out clause for non UK available items.
This has just cut in for XM windscreen trim which is no longer available.
If the fitter cannot get the old trim off in a fit state to reuse they have no further liability.
Nor do you get any reduction on the glass charge.
Recovery and storing of glass requires care but is possible.
The recently introduced Autoglass (patent) "wire tension" method is fast and looks ideal for screen recovery.
One of our local scrapyards recovers and stocks screens.
Not much chance they will have an XM one though.
Moving screens without putting them on a purpose designed carrying frame has a very high risk of cracking.

Are the trims not available at all, or just not from Citroen. They come with the aftermarket trim pack normally.

The estate trim pack has always been Citroen only.
Autoglass were unable to source an estate set about 10 days ago.
Current status is no stock and no further production.
I then tried to get them to order a car trim set as the windscreen and side trims are identical for both types of XM.
That check also came up none available.

In my experience it is quite unusual to find a s/h screen that has not de-laminated at the edges and I always remove the trim myself that is rarely a problem. If special transport and storage arrangements are possible then by all means screens can be salvaged and reused, although the glass has so little strength when off the car and will crack at the slightest hint of distortion.
