2.5TD Hatch for spares or repair

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

2.5TD Hatch for spares or repair

Post by rosspa » Sun Sep 01, 2013 8:42 pm

My old XM has to go. If anybody is interested, details are as follows: I have owned the car for over 9 years. It has been a brilliant car, but its problems have just about overtaken me. Fortunately, I have another that I bought originally for spares, I have now robbed a few spares from it to get this other one through the Mot. The main problems are that the engine has developed, what I suspect, is a fairly major problem. It lost a fair amount of power while travelling to work. Probably, its firing on 3 cylinders, maybe injector problem, but I suspect mechanical. It has a rough and very smoky idle, but will drive. I drove it to work, started up and drove home successfully a distance of around 35 miles, no overheating or loss of coolant or oil. It has also developed a hydraulic leak over the rear subframe but so far is just a weep, suspension stays up on high. I have robbed 2 front ABS sensors and the front spheres so front suspension is hard and ABS does not work. It also has a fairly bad dent in the drivers door, and the o/s rear window cable is broken. It also has a replacement o/s front wing, bumper and underpan after a minor accident, over a year ago. I also know that the o/s front track-rod and steering rack gaiter need replacing. Apart from all that it isn't too bad and certainly has many useable parts. It had a replacement clutch, radiator and belts a couple of years ago. Both front struts are in good condition. It has MOT and Tax until November. Although driveable, it would be safest to trailer. It is on ebay and I'm after £250 as is or it will go for scrap.

Hmm might be good for spares for me for the future but storing it would be fun!

Hi all, thanks John for putting the link in, I couldn't figure how to do it. It will be a shame to scrap. It has been the best car I have ever owned and if I had more room I would keep it and gradually sort it. However, it really is sensible for us to part. As I said, I will shed a tear when it goes.

Hi rosspa,
Forum members on here obviously know its '2.5 TD' but the E-bay listing is rather vague for the general public (As doesn't state the engine size) its only by looking thro' the photos posted in the listing the folks can decipher this !

 it may bring in more interest in your XM E-bay listing (So as to reach your reserve) by quoting its a 2.5TD and the fact that it should have the larger diameter sized struts/strut tops (Which look in excellent condition [As stated]) if folk where looking at it for those alone + other useful source of spares (like the clutch assy.), but it would be a shame if it did go that way !

Click on photo for E-bay link ;)

Good luck with the sale, (hopefully it will get bought/saved) !

:)

.
An XM if for life, (Not just for Christmas) !
