I like the FB comment where he's considered 'nuts' for wanting to swap it for a Poxhall Ashtray..
I quite agree although I'd say he's barking...

Hi There, my name's Phil Chidlow - and I have a new registration name because I forgot my old one (do'oh). And I have agreed to buy the XM in question - along with its hateful wheel trims lol. Deposit paid and should pick it up in early January. I shall report back. In the meantime, although I have been told quite a lot about the car - from the seller and from Chevronics who serviced the car, any further 'background' to this particular XM would be welcome.
Oh, and does anyone have any alloys for sale....

Hi Phil.
You seem to be drawn to XM like a magnet.

Yep. What else would make a good cruiser for next year's holiday. And I can't always resist a bargain (although whether it is or not remains to be seen!)

Well done you. Dunno what the mileage, condition and service history are, but if I'd noticed this in time I'd have bought it myself!

16V manuals are the proverbial hen's teeth and deeply desirable, IMHO.

Well, I haven't seen the car in anything other than the image in the FB posting, but I have spoken with the owner - a nice chap called Adrian - and I spoke to Cheryl at Chevronics, who service the car. She suggested there wasn't anything that would require swift attention, as it's been regularly serviced and when things needed doing, they were done. There is some bodywork damage, a scrape/dent on the n/s rear arch which has been pulled out and straightened up but it's not apparently too bad. Likewise a crease in the o/s rear door. The front bumper's had a knock but looks OK and the rear bumper's trim strip is broken. These are things I can attend to in time.
So: it's a silver 172k mile 2.0i 16v manual SX hatchback. 1998, extensive SH including 60k miles ago a rebuilt top end (thanks to HGF - Chevronics did the work). Timing belt and tensioners done about 28k miles/3 years ago. Apart from routine servicing at Rob Moss's it's recently had new battery, starter motor, accumulator sphere, strut tops (good!), brake pads and a set of tyres. It's taxed until April, I think, and MOT to May (or the other way round!?). Rust doesn't appear to be an issue.
Being the SX it has manual rear windows and in this case no air con, but the sunroof works and doesn't leak.
Things that will need looking at (of which I'm aware)...
Radio doesn't work. It's an aerial connection issue apparently.
Pixel displays don't seem to work, although I'm not sure it applies to both sides, and being an SX would it even have them? Dunno... I've only had experience of Exclusives.
Remote for the central locking isn't working.
Adjusting the firmness of the suspension setting (normal/sport) isn't particularly apparent, so maybe the old diode replacement therapy is needed?
And I hopefully pick it up early to mid-January. Can't wait...

Hi Phil

That's excellent... You won't regret it at all..
I seem to recall we spoke of you wanting an XM at CXM...
