24v in France

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

24v in France

Post by roddew » Fri Dec 27, 2013 2:11 pm

Just spotted this on Ebay. Not sure but it seems to describe having a later (60 degree?) engine fitted. Interesting, if only to watch and see what it fetches.
Can't do the linky thing, sorry. Item number is 201009444953.

Rodders.

I think you are right Rodders and it does seem to have a replacement ESJ engine fitted and I wonder what happened to the original! Regards, Matthew T.

Why do think it has an ES9 engine? The ES9 was not fitted to the XM until 1997, and the power is listed as 160CV which is closer to that of the 12V PRV.

What makes ANY of you think its an ES9 or ESJ, apparently there was the Early 24v engine which "Ate" the cams like all early 24v engines did, Thought we ALL knew that anyway, thats most likely why its had a replacment engine..

EVEN more suprised at you "Wondering What happened to the original engine" Mathew, thought you knew your 24v engines.

I think the wording saying "Second Generatation" engine means PSA or Citroen had started fitting the modification at factory to later engines.. This will be my best shot at it..

On reflection I think the car probably does have a later modified PRV V6 24v engine, although the stated 160bhp is confusing! The original engine apparently lasted six years and 130,000 km so I still think my question was a reasonable one Paul!! Regards, Matthew T.

160 DIN was the power rating, not BHP.. Why would someone fit a PR ES9 engine instead of a PRV 24v? :D theres NO contest..

The advert implies the new engine was fitted in 1996 by a Citroen dealer.
If so I would be surprised if a even a French dealer could get hold of a spare about to be released new design engine.
End of the line PRV engines are much more likely to be available in stock or ex factory in 1996.
A car with a new PRV in 1996 could be a real bargin.
A car with a prototype ES9J engine could be a real dog.
Pity there is no photo of the engine bay.
