I'd need two hydraulic pipes that are sadly NFP. No, I lied, I'd also need a nut in addition.

The pipes are 5270 F5 (spiraling from the pressure reg) and 4023 58 (steering supply). Both are identical for RHD and LHD. The nut is 6932 56, on top of the HP pump.

Good condition broken ones would do just fine. Mine are still intact but have been bent seriously in the past by a previous owner and I'd prefer some peace of mind being sure they won't rupture any time soon.

Basically you want for a 2.5 TD the PAS supply pipes from the Pump to the Rack, they are in two section, and it has anti sink.. Just to help clear it up a bit more.

Actually, I need those three all that are around the pressure regulator but the third one isn't NFP (5270 F8 ). It was very probably after the refitting of the regulator that somebody couldn't be bothered to figure out how the pipes were supposed to be routed. They just bent them to reach wherever they needed to reach. Now they are bent back to their original shape, very carefully and they hold pressure all right but I don't think this should be stretched indefinitely, pun intended.

No, 2.1 Pipes are completey different to the 2.5 setup.

Another reason for not having the 2.5 on my list..

Shame your so far away, Id love to come and do a raid of the car! When I strip a car, I do it well, and strip EVERY thing down.

NOT saying thats what your not going to do of course..

Yes, it's different but it's a wonderful engine nevertheless...

Idly following your dialogue, I was musing on the availability of replacement copper pipes for my V6 Exclusive which, as John would know, might prove a useful investment prior to future MoTs. I saw an S1 car advertised recently which listed them as having been fitted but wondered where they came from? Any ideas? And I'm still searching for the plastic guards that cover them...

Also John, I've still been unable to find anyone willing to heat/weld my damaged front sills which are another worry come the next MoT. In your experience would it be worth going to Savoy who seems to be the nearest XM specialists to me and list "welding" as one of the services on their website?

Hi Mark

There are four pipe materials that can be used on hydraulic Citroens.
Steel pipe - used by Citroen on early hydraulics.
Steel pipe with protective black plastic sheath - Citroen on later hydraulics such as XM's.
Cupro Nickel pipe - used as a replacement on hydraulic Citroens because of its resistance to rust.
Copper pipe - supplied in replacement sets by AutoMec of Buckingham.

Of these pipes I personally would not use copper and plain steel pipe on an XM.
Copper pipe does not rust but falls a bit short of the Citroen pressure spec.
Plain steel even Citroen noticed rusts far too fast so the added protection.

I stock and use CuNi pipe in exposed locations such as top of rear axle.
In non critical places or short life cars I will happily reuse recovered sheathed steel pipe.

I believe Malcolm at Savoy would do a fine job.
Speak to him (phone, email or PM him on here).
One option would be to time any work so renewing the MOT was part of the work.

If that does not work out then Citroenxm might be prepared to look at your car pipework and cills.
If the rear axle is to be dropped for inspection then consider full repipe with CuNi and replacing the rear spheres.

Thanks for the info John and I'll bear all that in mind. I forgot about Citroenxm – is he the chap based in Anglesey, which is of course nearer me than Savoy in Burnley?
