XM door check straps

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

XM door check straps

Post by Garryd » Fri Jul 03, 2015 3:46 pm

I need to replace a couple of the check straps on my 1998 Exclusive. The NSF has cracked: the OSR is rusty. Perhaps I should source all four for a twenty year old vehicle since they will soon become hen's teeth?!
Can anyone help, please?

Rear ones (9181 78) are NFP (no further production).

Well I do need a door arrester if we are talking the yoke that keeps the door from shutting close, bolted with 2 bolts to the car? Naturally I need the drivers door side. I've never swapped one of them, I now it's written here somewhere how to change them but I've never looked at it.

The catch bolted TO THE CAR BODY?? That the door lock .. locks onto when you close the door?

They are still on the car.. only two bolts.. star head bolts.. i can get them off..

The condition of secondhand straps varies considerably.
Lubrication or lack of.
Amount of use can be minimal on some doors.
Rough use can break the loop that fixes strap to pillar.
So check over any secondhand ones before bothering to recover them.

Front straps have a bent arm, Rears a straight arm.
Do not fit the wrong one.
The difference is deliberate design to stop the arm hitting the door skin or the lowered window glass.
