What do you have in mind George - knockabout stopgap or longterm sistership to the V6?
You realise just how rare manual petrold have now become!? ;)

Midterm sistership to start with -if I like the 2lt and don't find it too slow, which I think I won't (the manual!). On the long run, I might choose to only keep one on the road.

Yep I know they are rare. But that's because most people prefer(ed) automatics...

What I'd pay mostly depends on condition. Do u have anything to propose?

Well there's surely something here that may do the trick and I need to face up to trimming down the fleet
- I seem to have a weakness for petrol manuals! What colour would you prefer on an 8v s1?

Seriously for a mo, I have a lot here although I hadn't planned on an imminent sale I guess you're looking for!
Slight problem with distance between us although it's be a hell of a trip back home - a flight one way isn't
a big deal - I was seriously considering an Activa in Glasgow and did a bit of homework on how to get to it...

I'm sure we can arrange somthing Andrew; I was prepared to travel to Cambridge for that silver one -not very economical but what else can u do. Remind me where r u exactly?

What if u stick me 1 photo of each good 2lt manual u have and I'll narrow them down to 2-3 that we can then discuss in more detail. (This is given u have about 5 cars, not choice of 20!)

Primary criterion for me is condition -do u have any like or close to the silver? ie. no rust, low mileage, 99% of electrics working. Needs to take me to work everyday from the day after I buy it -or within a week, with minor work done. I need to know that I can trust it will start everyday -as much as u can trust an 18 year old car.

Second, I don't mind about trim (alloys, coded bumpers, leather etc) but it must look presentable for work on the outside. Inside, I'd prefer velour. Usual scratches ok but no laquer peeling etc.

Third, would like a post June 1992 one, with the silly 2-spoke wheel.

Summary, what's the 2-3 best ones u r willing to part with?

I'd like a deal+pick up within the next 2 weeks ideally, 3 maybe.

I've never driven an automatic XM, all mine have been manuals. Is that unusual?

Steve.

Hi Steve!

Very unusual. Because Andrew has all the other manuals hidden away in his barn!!!

Not unusual, I'd say that's very fortunate Steve! You lucky thing. ;)

Well don't go telling anyone this, but I have got a good few manuals (including a few V6's though these wouldn't
need rehoming).

I've had a good hard mull over my "inventory" and my problem is George, the immediate issue in offering help in
your quest is the immediacy of getting one of them extracted, shaken down and made a legally ruberstamped
proposition. Andy (aka featch) on the forum here will attest to the fact that I'm somewhat kneedeep in cars and
turnaround time is a bit sedate so a fortnight would be wildly optimistic.

I know I need to rationalise the fleet but the hardest part is actually seeing the wooed for the trees...

Hi Andrew

Yep, I though it'd need more time since u wouldn't know their state, since u'r not using them!

What if we go by mileage+rust+paint condition, to make an initial selection of 2-3 cars from the heard? That's easy to spot in a day's walk in ur..museum -forget colors-trims etc. The only other factor I'd still be interested is that I much prefer an S1.5 to an S1 -easy to spot, also-. I'd probably do the belts, oils, sparks etc consumables myself anyway, so u dont' need to worry about that kind of detail searching for sevice histories etc....As long as it doesn't leak LHM/oil/water, and electrics seem to operate normally, then it's okay.

Then, if u+I choose 1 car for sorting+selling, the ball will have already rolled a good way.

Can give u the time u need Andrew, most important is that I know for sure I'll be getting one for, say, early Jan 2010; otherwise, I may go and GPL the V6 within the next 2 weeks to cut my costs, or buy smthing else I don't really want to -u see the tradeoff I'm locked in.

Anyway, take ur time and decide if u want to go for it -I appreciate u may have had other plans for how to spend ur time till Christmas!! On the other hand, what better opportunity for pushing towards fleet rationalisation than someone actually *wanting* to buy one of them!

Do let me know anyway, in the meanwhile I'm looking Autotrader about 10 times a day :-(

cheers
George
