As stated, mine's bust amd my local dealer says they're nfp.

Im afraid I think its a speedy cables affair .. OR if your really clever which is what I want to do .. obtain a series two speedo head and a speed sensor for your gearbox and with a bit of electronics and wiring plumb in an electronic speedo and then never have the worry of a broken speedo again..

I keep thinking about doing this to rid the wobbly needle.

There is absolutely no reason for it not to work.. at all.

Dunno why ive not done it before really. Ive got everything here to do it..

The series 1 dashboard would lend itself nicely to a Head Up Display...!

How many S 2 speedo's and sensors have you got?

Sounds like a really sensible fix for a known problem, and using "standard parts".

Page 8 and 9 of Gabors 2.5 wiring booklet post gives the speed display end wiring.
Page 5 shows the distance sensor end.
Display is Citroen part No. 40, Distance sensor is part No. 154.

Distance sensor has 3 contacts:
Pin 1 is +12V from fuse F19 which is switched by the ignition and live on M and A.
Pin 2 is Earth wired direct.
Pin 3 is sensor output.

There are 3 versions of the speed sensor.
Initial version was cable drive only, so no good for this mod.
Second version was dual output cable and electronic, may need this variant if there is another feed taken off the cable drive.
Final version was electronic output only. Lots of these now on offer with Chinese ones less than £10.

Speedo end wiring.
Red socket pin 5 is the 12V supply again from fuse F19.
Red socket pin 6 is the Earth link.
Red socket pin 1 is the Speed sensor input line.

I can probably find 2.5 bits for someone who wants to try this.

Have now looked out a couple of Mk 2 display heads, V6 auto and 2.5 and they look identical.
Think there is a Mk1 display head in the garage so will look that out in the morning.

Looking at the comments above, there is an electrical socket on the joint between the 2 Cables, I assume for the Hydractive system.

John's detail is really helpful and timely.
Looks like a simple substitution job, involving a minimum of wiring.
