Sadly, my father's very well looked after XM developed a hydraulic problem and is now up for sale.
It seemed that the hydraulic system over pressurised and as a result, two front to rear pipes have burst and the spigot connecting the steering ram to the rack has sheared off.
For repair you'd have to factor in a replacement rack and maybe ram, plus the associated pipe work.

It's in Emerald green, Exclusive spec with cream leather (the leather is rather tired looking). It has been maintained according to the Citroen specified schedule and Dad would always of put genuine/OE spec parts on. It has also been treated with cavity wax over the years and is rust free.

'95 N plate, approx 200,000 miles 2.0 ltr Turbo Auto. Alloys, everything works

It would seem a shame for it to be scrapped and indeed there are probably rare parts on it that shouldn't be scrapped. If any potential buyer wants the car for parts or to repair, the car needs to be taken away, as I'm not in a position to strip the car and offer parts individually. Not sure of a price but it won't be much.

I hope it is of interest to someone willing to take her on!

The actual car is located in Somerset near Glastonbury area. My dad seems to think the pressure regulator failed and over pressurised everything. I'd also factor in a new set of spheres as although they been changed appropriately, my dad's current mechanic thinks that some spheres may be incorrect spec as fitted by previous garage/mechanic.

A sticky pressure regulator would find any pipework weaknesses, but I can't see how it would shear the steering rack, I would have thought the pinion valve seal would have ruptured first.

It would certainly be worth investigating the regulator before an further action is taken.
