I'll take some photographs when I get home this evening and add them to the thread but I've decided to sell my XM. It is the Turbo-D model in maroon and I've had it for about three years after I got it from Medway who had had it a long time and done lots of work on it; I believe it had a stint as a courtesy car and was also for a time the owners son's car. It has lots of miles (280000) but has had an lower miles and non-EGR engine and box fitted although with a Bosch pump. It (as standard) has no ABS which saves all the attendant unreliability that can bring.
It has been my everyday car and it has generally been very reliable. The bodywork isn't the prettiest ( the usual lacquer peel and also some dents) however it is very solid and underneath is much less rusty than most XMs I have experienced. It does currently have an issue in that it has a water leak which appears to be from the metal coolant pipe which runs from the water pump at the back of the engine to the 'dummy' thermostat housing at the front. This needs fixing before the car goes back into everyday use but otherwise I'd say that mechanically the car is really rather sound. The suspension is very good both hydraulically and mechanically and I have done the timing belt and water pump. Apparently Medway did the clutch on it. One minor niggle is that the hydraulic pump is weak (I think it's down a cylinder or two because it rattles) and so the power steering sometimes briefly looses assistance. I have the original pump which did not do this but which leaks from the shaft seal although I'm not sure it is possible to make one good pump out of two broken ones.
I would like £250. MOT until end of April. I'm in Liverpool.
