Rehoming a Series 1 24v...

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Rehoming a Series 1 24v...

Post by David Hallworth » Sat Mar 10, 2018 4:23 pm

Right, due to a lack of time, space and other commitments, I'm looking to thin down the number of cars that I've got.

My Dad has bought this car in 1994, he ran it as his daily car for years before replacing it with a Xantia Activa. When he replaced it he kept the car but left it parked outside as we had nowhere inside for it to go at the time.

We sold the car a few years ago and it ended up in London before being bought buy a guy in Cheshire where it had the engine removed from it to go into a Renault Alpine. It was at this point I bought the car back and took it over to Paul in North Wales. Paul had another 24v of mine that was rotten so a plan came together.

There was a lot of welding done to this car as the body shell was worse then we originally expected, the engine was removed from the other 24v, a brand new clutch was fitted and the engine and gearbox made it into the Mandarin body. Once all the works were completed, I collected the car from Paul and drove it back to Glasgow. It's first trip in years, this was all completed effortlessly and without a hitch.

When I got the car home I did a few jobs to it. I replaced the speed sensor on the gearbox as the trip computer hadn't worked for years, I replaced the speedo drive cable as the speedo wasn't working and I replaced the 3 front spheres (the rears were done by Paul) and the car drove really nicely.

The car has been used 2 or 3 times since we got it back from Paul and rather then leaving it to decay again I'd rather it was rehomed where someone can persevere with it or use it for parts to keep another car on the road.

The engine and gearbox in this car as lovely, the engine is sweet as a nut and has bags of power, and the gearbox is lovely and smooth as well. The biggest thing that lets the car down is the bodywork. The car at present has no MOT, for an MOT it will need a set of tyres and probably some work to silence the exhaust as there's a blow from somewhere on it. Due to a lack of time I'd rather the car was trailered away although I could help with delivery to the North West of England for the cost of fuel.

I do have some 24v parts that are going with the car...

24v Exhaust - Centre Section and I think back box.
24v Thermostat
24v Chassis leg engine mount, the donut one. I managed to source the last genuine Citroen one.
24v Throttle cable

If I find anything else 24v related in the shed they can go with the car.

I will try and get it washed and get some pictures of it tomorrow.

I'm not really sure what the car is worth but if you're interested, please get in touch.

My CX GTi Turbo 2 is also on the list of cars looking for a new home.

Thanks

David.

I was sorry to hear that you are passing on the car David and I hope she finds a good home. Perhaps Paul will take it back into his stable and especially given all the past work! With regards, Matthew T.
