I have just bought my first XM and need a spare wheel carrier.
Can anybody sell me one please?
Just good enough to stop the wheel falling out is fine.

Have often wondered whether a section of cut-down oversize tyre might not make a good replacement for the tinplate - assuming a decent used one can't be found.

Other carriers are just steel rod cage round half the tyre. Easy enough to weld after bending to suit. Stainless a good option perhaps. One thing to note is that the steel frame is welded as two separate parts onto the metal sheet.

Just remove the rusty thin metal protector, sand down the steel structure and paint it with hammerite. If you want to replace the shrout just use the bottom of a plastic barrel, an oversized tyre or make your own (like I did) using the original one as a mould and copying it in fibreglass.

Or perhaps one of the hard spare wheel covers from a scrapped smaller 4x4 would be a good source of non rusting material in the correct shape.

That's a really good suggestion.

Plus you can fix two spare wheel carriers with one cover.
