Re: My XM's have a new stable mate...
I'm amazed at the condition given it's a Scottish car. Those snowy winters and the amount of salt used normally reduce them to teabags in a few years.

Agreed Will.
David that is an absolute stunner, can't wait to see it finished, a hell of a find!
There's a silver GTI Turbo 2 over here that I looked at and sat in a few years back, it was being worked on by Willie Johnston for a customer, funny it was also an English 'E' reg if I remember correctly, will see if I can dig out some pics.
Bodywork just wasn't a patch on yours though, it was getting entire sills replaced.
You've got an absolute gem there, hope to see it one day.
Good job!
Ciarán

Re: My XM's have a new stable mate...
This one has been waxoyled several times from new and the underside of it is pretty spotless. It's had one patch welded onto the N/S longeron the size of a cigarette packet and it needs one on the O/S for MOT this year. The local bodyshop have quoted me £40 to weld it. I'm hoping to have it all done and on the road for 1st July but I'm at the mercy of the bodyshop now.
The drivers mirror is droopy however there's a good one in the boot for me to put on it
Annoyingly, my brake pipe is sitting at Parcel Farce's National Hub and hasn't moved since yesterday morning!

I once had a parcel from Gloucestershire to Cambridgeshire, which I was tracking daily on line... It went from Gloucestershire to Coventry to London to Coventry then back to Gloucestershire where it was declared to be undeliverable, despite having the correct address and postcode and my phone number on it.

WOW David what a stunner! Amazing find. The grandfather and spiritual successor to the C6!
I bet the 1st of July can't come quick enough!

Re: My XM's have a new stable mate...
Well, the CX is finished. Actually, it still needs a small cigarette packet sized patch welding on underneath it but that's getting done next week hopefully. Once that's done she's MOT ready.
It's had all the rear pipes replaced, all the front to back pipes replaced, the front brake caliper pipe replaced (finally arrived today), oil and filter changed, fuel filter changed, gearbox oil changed, and the plugs have been replaced too.
I drained the fuel out tonight and put 20 litres of V-Power into it as well. She's running beautifully.
Hopefully it won't be long now until she's MOT'd and on the road. The only thing that might affect my 1st July goal is the welding man as I don't really fancy doing that myself.
The rear brake caliper bleed nipples have been squashed in the past so they're not round any more. I managed to get them to open and close but I'm not happy leaving them like that as I might not next time. Does anyone know if they're just standard bleed nipples on the back calipers?
David.

Re: My XM's have a new stable mate...
Well, it's time for an update... The CX was MOT'd last year and had a few outtings.
Reliability wise she was perfect, performance wise she was perfect, and the admiration she got everywhere she went was amazing.
Parked at the Costa Coffee drive through locally she was getting positive comments, parked at the local car club breakfast meets she was getting loads of attention and pictures taken of her.
Unfortunately I'm just not gelling with her and I've decided that I'm going to be looking for a new home for my CX.
I've got waaay to many cars here at the moment, I'm well into double figures and really need to thin the fleet down considerably. I also want to use my XM this year too.
David.

Re: My XM's have a new stable mate...
I ran diesel Safari's for about 10 years and around 200k miles, best cars I had ever driven, there was a saying about then that 'if you drove one for less that half an hour you wouldn't want to drive it again, but more than half an hour and you would never want to drive anything else' I fell into the latter category. The last one I had was a CX 25 DTR turbo, I had it for seven years.
I would very much like another one but I don't have the cash or energy to maintain one any more but they were certainly the most memorable cars I have ever had.
I hope all goes well with yours.
Peter
