Workshop Manual says In the V on the rear block opposite end of engine to the clutch.
Think that it is stuck onto cylinder no.6

Plate with 3 lines of writing:
SKZ PSA
1 F V01
0000001

V6-12v is plated in the same position.
Same information layout except S6A replaces SKZ.

Maybe someone with a spare engine can physically check this information.

Edit Note.
Posted at the same time as Will.
The plate or raised stamping area is clearly visible in the photo Will posted.

Thanks. Looks like I'll need to remove the inlet manifold then. Cant believe they didn't put a plate somewhere to aid inspection, but if they did it beats me as I can't find it!

Does the cylinder head lift off both banks as one assembly? I can see two 13mm nuts holding it on to the front cylinder head, think there's the same at the rear but access is lousy.

Or do all those torx bolts need to come out to separate the upper half from the lower half?

Does the paperwork you got with the car not state the engine number, if not have you asked the seller?

Can you take it for a VIC check and get VOSA to confirm the registration information?
The main function of a VIC is to prove the identity and integrity of the car.
So as well as cut and shut checks they must have tools to get at hidden numbers.
By March 1992 they had reached engine number 0000052.
Might be interesting to see the V5 engine numbers and ORGA's from a few of the later V6-24v's.

I've checked the German log book, Fahrzeugbrief, about 10 times as unlike the UK Reg doc it states nearly every single thing about the car - apart from the engine number. States the VF chassis number then OTTO/GKAT 51 which I guess means petrol engine with catalyst. Maybe the 51 is 0000051. Think I'll phone DVLA office tmrw and enquire as it's the only fact I'm missing on form. Easier than taking the manifold off!

Interesting the engine number only got to 0000052, does that mean they had only sold 52 by March 1992?

Why not ask your local Citroen dealer or even Citroen UK to help.

Have looked a bit further through the Manual items.
Found some production numbers for V6 & V6-24v engines.
Will list V6 first then V6-24v:

17359 - 2516 (bearing shell mods).
18326 - 3812 (piston change 1).
19858 - 4124 (piston change 2).
20166 - 4325 (piston change 3).

That's interesting. From German log book it looks like mine is 3001. Is there a list of engine numbers corresponding to engine production number?

Sorry to have come in a bit late on this thread, but I have looked at my V6's for numbers including on a spare 12v engine without finding any numbers. After checking my 1991 24v log book the engine number is 003447 (Vin ends 1238) if that is any use! With regards, Matthew T. PS. I am surprised that a main dealer cannot supply the information off their system.

Hi Marc

Those production numbers are also the engine numbers.
From Matthews numbers I think there is a fair chance your engine number will turn out to be 0004421.
Similar info from Paul would help me check out though.
