You weren't the only one texting me Chris
I also received several phone calls too...
I think I'd better keep quite the next time a car of mine goes in for an MOT. I seem to have put rather a lot of blood pressures up today...
Happily the next one is not until May 2013 now
Honestly I don't think I could take another this year...
And my record for MOT passing remains fully intact

Is this why you're under so much pressure Jim, as each time there's a test
there's more of a record to maintain?

No, it's much more complex than that Andrew. To be honest I don't understand it at all except it's been happening for several years now...
I can't recall the last time a car of mine failed an MOT so that I guess unconsciously does have a bearing in that by the law of averages there should be the odd fail here and there...
I need to see a trick-cyclist about this. It's getting serious...

Thanks Robert

Committed XM owner now...
I wonder sometimes if I should be committed
I'm actually off to see a psychotherapist tomorrow. I might well ask her for her her thoughts on my MOT phobia...
Because that's what it is. My XM (and my Xantias) should be grateful I didn't have her crushed simply to avoid having to have her MOT'd

Absolutely Rohan

Until this time next year
The MOT testers liked it so much I reckon they took it for a spin. It was a wet old day here and two of the rubber mats were covered in mud
I noticed a tiny coolant leak from one of the tee-pieces where one of the LPG vapouriser heater pipes tees off. A little tighten of the offending Jubilee clip seems to have stopped it.
I also looked at the vapour-phase filter between the vapouriser and the LPG injector rail. It looks like a mini air filter and I was staggered at how mucky it was. I've given it a blast on the air-line whilst I await a replacement. They cost around about £6 and are available on ebay...
The engine is definitely running a lot happier on both gas and petrol now it has the benefit of an oxygen sensor

Well I would treat that as a positive then Jim. Hopefully they'll look on it favorably in the future. Always helps to have someone who understands them and their quirks when it comes to things like MOT's.
Your XM is really coming together nicely. Must be very satisfying!

Replaced the vapour-phase filter in the LPG system today. That's the filter between the vapouriser and the injector rail.
This is the old one

Look at the muck on it....
And you'd have thought LPG would have been as clean and as pure as the driven snow but no, it's filthy stuff
The old filter element really stinks. It seems to be very good at filtering the stenching agent used in the gas. I'm sure there's nobody else who studies stenching agents but I'm intrigued as the autogas stench is a lot different from either the one used in natural gas or the one favoured by Calor for their bottled gasses. The autogas stench is a sweeter one and smells a lot like some rather aromatic cooking ingredient that I'm at a loss to identify. Whatever, it's incredibly strong and potent as I can still smell it on my fingers long after taking the above photo and washing my hands...
It may be my imagination but the car seemed a bit livelier on gas after the swap.
