Hi Capt

Check the condition of the wires under the glowplug relay.
These overheat and go high resistance usually close to the ring terminal clamps.

Somebody made me aware of this:

http://www.autoweek.nl/occasion?id=53LW ... n&model=XM

I know it is in Dutch so not readable for most, but you can read the mileage (approx. 61.000 Kilometres and the price - 16.650 euros....) Lot of money for an XM!

Lovely car though Jaap. Sunroof too.

Going back to the glow plug light, mine does it, I believe Will's does it too. I cleaned the connections in the relay and it didn't really help. So after Johns advice, I might have a look too.
However it doesn't bother me. I just count to 5 when it doesn't want to play ball, and it starts everytime.

This morning my hand brake pedal had no resistance whatsoever. I suppose some linkage underneath has given away while car was parked with parking brake on. Seems I have to crawl underneath a car once again :( But could be worse I guess, like leaking hydraulics :)

Regarding the glow plug light not illuminating.....have seen very similar things on other cars and as result dispensed a swift flick of my finger at the panel the first time I was aware of this (infrequent) fault. Light instantly came on- probably nothing more than a loose connection.

Good luck with the parking brake!

Could just be one of the front cables jumped out of the brake caliper lever.
Check these first, wheel off, pull the cable inner with a pair of pliars.

I'd expect at least some resistance with one cable jumped out, I actually did have a cable jumped out that I hadn't noticed until the NCT with the other XM.

Will investigate soon but in the mean time as days are getting shorter and my driving through the dark Joyce country, head lights are noticeable NOT good enough especially in rainy conditions. Now, my other XM did have a Xenon set but unfortunately it's a cheap one (I think) and one of them has failed. It does say 35 watts but not the coulour temperature.

I am now looking to buy new sets but need advice about the colour temperature (4300K, or 5000 etc. ) I've read somewhere 6000 K is sufficient and I must add, I drive a lot of really dark windy small and empty roads in the dark lots of times because I don't do office hours. I need just good lights.

Any advice much appreciated! :)
