Success!

The elusive heater flap servo has been supplied by Jacqui at XMCentral and I have managed to get it fitted between the showers today. Even better, I now have a working heater again.

The only other thing I have done recently is fit some chrome wheel nut covers to tidy up the wheels so all is set for Wetherby next week end. It would be nice to see some sunshine. :-)

That's a gorgeous R4 Rob and looks stunning in Canary Yellow. Few cars can pull off yellow but the R4 certainly can 8-)

Strong money though

Great news on your heater :D We found we needed mine today and no doubt like you I'm glad I got it fixed and working.

I had an M reg 4 in that colour when it was only a few years old. I bought it to replace an R10 that was powered by an R8 engine. All I can remeber of that 4 now was that it went unusually well but it had a hole in one of the wings much earlier than it had any right to.

The replacement for the 4 was a terrific car, a Fiat 132s with a twin cam engine. Big, comfy and well capable of a ton. Shame they have all disolved now.

Has anyone made use of these parts? This seems to me to be a competitive price, what do you think?

My cambelt is five years old this month but hasn't done that many miles but I think I shall get it done as I would hate for the old girl to go bang just yet.

SKF is fine Rob. Well known make...

It is recommended that cambelts be changed on a time-served basis if only doing low mileages and to me five years seems a sensible interval...

Check out e-bay for 2.1 D non turbo timing belt kits. Very cheap, scrap the belt as they are different, but the tensioners and idlers are the same. Waterpump also the same.

Looks nice. My SED is on an '95 M plate. No aircon fitted but it does have duel zone heating/ventilation which is useful. Cloth seats as well but a slightly leaky sunroof which means it's now sealed up until I can strip the roof trim and investigate.

2015 - Still waiting for the hover conversion kit but do wear two neckties at same time.

The timing belt and water pump kit arrived today and it looks like June will be the expensive month as I want that doing along with a couple of other bits for the MOT.

On another note I went out today to look at some cars to replace the Megane Coupe we have that I really don't like. I was fairly set on a C4, until I sat in one; I think I just don't like more modern cars in general. It all seemed very cramped because of the acres of plastic and I got little sense of where the corners of the car were. I didn't even bother taking it for a drive, more because it turned out to be a diesel with no service history for over 50k miles than for anything else. The only thing I sat in today that I really did like (apart from the XM obviously) was a brand new Multispace; now that did seem spacious and practical. It seems I have suddenly become old and boring. Anyway, it doesn't matter because one of those is way out of my price range. The previous generation might be a possibility, however, but they do lack the funky looks and their van origins are very obvious.

If you were at Wetherby, or are also on the BX Forum you may be aware of a very tasty BX TZD that is for sale in Leeds:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C389993

which is pretty local. Whilst it might come within budget, it is not within my budget for a 21 year old BX. I appreciate that values for good examples are rising, but that one seems to set the bar very high indeed. The other thing is that this purchase is likely to have multiple drivers, and I don't want to be worrying more about the car than its occupants.

I like Robert Smart's ZX

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C375165

but it is an auto and a manual is preferred by the younger users as that is all they have driven. Apart from one ZX 16v I considered that is excellent, there don't seem to be any good ones about. Maybe I shall have to try a Xsara...

Actually Robert's ZX does look peachy...

Ho hum

Hope you don't mind my ramblings - thinking in print really - just feeling a bit frustrated. I must develop more patience as there really is no rush.

Rob
