I went and had a look at a 2006 Berlingo Multispace today at a local traders and was surprised at how impressed I was with it, not having driven it. They are far from being sophisticated, and speaking as a long term Multipla owner I find them ugly! The one I looked at today is a 1.6 petrol and I have no idea what they are like for performance and economy. I did like the spaciousness of the cabin and all the cubby holes and storage tricks. I did find the access good and the seats comfortable, which is important to me.

The 2.0hdi is blindingly quick. I am a huge fan of basic Citroen van based vehicles.

I know someone who bought a used Berlingo wit the smal headlights...loved it so much, within months ordered a brand new one in exclusive trim. That was the older model though, before it grew into a c8 sized MPV. I quite like the look of the Nemo...which really is the size of the original Berlingo.

I'm very keen on the 'Lingo Rob, especially in the form of a 2.0 HDi. Excellent vehicles and I'd have one in a heartbeat should having a V6 Xantia s daily hack become untenable.

They are absolutely excellent.

The only problem for me is that I really would like an automatic and I'm not sure if there were any...

There are four auto-HDi on Autotrader now.

These are the most common vehicle to be converted for wheelchair access, so it would seem sensible that they came with auto gearbox.

Ahh now that’s good to know Will, thanks :D Only minor problem is that will have the AL4 autobox and they're not the best... Not as compared to an HP20 anyway...

Wonder if an ES9 might drop in? Now that would make quite some mobility vehicle 8-)

Need to slam the front to the floor to emphasise the high back! ...Bit like a Renault 4....Mind you with a V6 under the bonnet it might do that anyway.

Actually Russ, in a lot of ways the 'Lingo is the present-day R4...

I had a couple of R4s in the late 70s and early 80s. Wonderful cars.

They certainly are. Even a true 2CV replacement, rather than a Pluriel or the vague silhouette of a C3.

Very good cars. I believe Steve Cropley, Autocar jurno bought a new one in 2003 and still has it. Loves it and can't seem to find anything to replace it with.

I loved my R4s all those years ago. I was given a 1966 bule one for my 21st birthday when it was 10 years old and almost totally knackered. I don't know what it cost my parents but I loved it and eventually sold it to an Australian backpacker who paid for it with travellers' cheques. I still feel a bit guilty about that because it really was rotten underneath, but as a student with a wife and drinking habit I needed the money...
