Quite interesting. Enough to just check Mr. Haynes on the subject. Not much, just how to take them off and assemble it back in reverse order, like usual. Instruction book even less.
I'm so curious now I'm gonna actually check!

Incidentely got the wrong steering rack gaiter for another XM so fixed it for the time being with part of a bicycle

Of course Robert was right. Water feels cold. Interestingly though, the headlight washers spray the dipped beam lights when swithched on and the the head lights with the headlights on.
I didn't bother to start the engine in the process.

They do do curious things. I always thought my sun visor lights didn't work, until I had the headlights on and had a look. And yep low and behold, full illumination...don't work otherwise!
Did you put the rear demist on...that might be it. My old KA had heated wingmirrors that only worked if the front windscreen quick clear was put on. Now that was a clever little system. You had heating elements in the front windscreen and did an excellent job at clearing the passenger side mostly!
Quite odd seeing steam rise from you wingmirrors!!

I'm almost sure the Xantia ones work all the time the ignition is on Russ.. I don't use them myself as I check my makeup before I leave the house but the girls do. In fact it's always been the first thing they do when they get in the car - visor down and mirror cover flipped up and then they do what girls do in mirrors. I'm sure the lights come on every time.
I must check...

They come on in the C5 if the car is unlocked. But as I do as you do..check my make up before leaving the house

,.. I have had no cause or anyone else for that matter that I know of...to use it whilst the ignition is on.
It's either that..or I magically fixed it whilst prattling around with the headlining.
Stranger things have happened.

Really ....you have Bendix Jaap. Robert has a Bendix sensor on ebay I believe...wether it is the correct one or not I really haven't a clue. I think it is probably a front one too.
That's bad luck needing a new one.
There must be someone out there who can rebuild or re manufacture these sensors. With today's technology, it has to be that bit easier surely....
