Re: Rob's SED
The wiper motor was replaced in April 09 at a cost of £256.99 including labour! Thelabour part was £44.
That seems like a very expensive wiper motor to me!

Re: Rob's SED
Down in Stroud now for a day or two. Had a pleasant hour with Campbell at lunchtime; it was good to meet another enthusiast from the forum. Filled up with fuel and it was just shy of 40mpg, so that is alright I reckon.

Re: Rob's SED
Fluids and filters bought, all ready to make some improvements this week end with Citroenmad's help. I shall be interested to see what his Lexia might throw up. It seems to like to tell me about stop light faults any time the lights or wipers are engaged, thankfully there doesn'#t seem to be any other evidence of these faults.
I did manage to remove the plastic scuttle trims a while back to see if there was any obvious reason why the wipers were so noisily duff but all seemed reasonably uptogether there. I was pleased by the absence of crud.
It is now well over 500 miles since I fuelled the beast, so that is a bonus - the 2CV doesn't go anywhere like as far, but then it doesn't cost as much to fill up! I love the contrast between the two types of motoring. I'm even beginning to appreciate the advantages of having a "modern" that we have owned from new; it's not that I "like" driving it as such, it is just a different experience and that is what I enjoy. I've used all three cars over the last few days (and the Multipla a couple of days before that) and they all have something to enjoy.

Re: Rob's SED
Excellent to hear Chris (Citroenmad) is giving you a hand Rob
He's becoming quite the roving XM fixer now. He's been down and helped get mine all up and good on a couple of occasions now...
Sounds like something's really got it's electrical knickers in a twist if the use of wipers or lights activate stop light faults
That's going to be an interesting one to find; it's either going to be something mind-bendingly complicated or just a very simple duff earth....

Re: Rob's SED
First check is the extra earths from the rear wing tail-lights.
Undo, clean up both ends (chassis bolted tag & bulb holder).
This earth was one of those added to stop the faulse bulb failure messages that plauged early XM's.

Re: Rob's SED
We did manage to get a good few jobs done
Sorry we didnt have chance to try the Lexia on it Rob, I'll come across and try that sometime soon.
Though I would guess at an earthing problem, while the lights appear to work fine it could be he case and is upsetting the computer.
