Surely, any number from a declared scrapped car might be available, be worth asking DVLA.

I did ask that question of the DVLA Will and was advised as stated by Jim that the number was lost and can only be obtained by transfer! Regards, Matthew T.

Re: The Latest Project!!
Thanks Matthew. I'll have to look into it. Did you get a number plate done for your Anthracite one, didn't you say it was bought in Hammersmith London, like mine was. Might be good to return it to what it might have had...logos and dealer name ect.
I don't think I have wet carpets in the boot. Must check after all this rain however!...I did have to Vaseline the window seals. They were letting in a drop or two in. I know about blocked drain holes however. I had to drop the family Renault 21 sunroof twice to stop the cascade of water coming through the headlining.

Re: The Latest Project!!
Hi Russ,
My Platinum 1990 V6 12v auto came from Citroen Hammersmith and I had new plates made up based on an original rear (see photo below). We could not get a perfect match but it is pretty close. The local chap has the templates stored on his PC and the charge is a very reasonable £10 per plate so do let me know if you are interested.
Hopefully your boot is okay but you need to lift the carpet and check in each corner.
With regards,
Matthew T.

Thanks very much Matthew. I'll let you know about the plates....that is a brilliant price. A Christmas present for the XM maybe!
I'll go and check my boot floor then. Fingers crossed!

Re: The Latest Project!!
It is possible Will as some classic car owners have managed to resurrect the original registration on a car they've restored that had originally 'lost' its number when Swansea computerised and swapped buff logbooks for V5s. If Swansea have no trace of a number than it's deemed dead and scrapped.Dieselman wrote:Surely, any number from a declared scrapped car might be available, be worth asking DVLA.
It's difficult and there's lots of hoops to jump through. I believe the car must be historically significant in some way or another and a recognised specialist must confirm the car is genuine and of stated significance and why.
An example might be an early Slough-built DS that's been rebuilt from a pile of rust. The CCC would have to get involved to confirm the car and so on. And then I believe the number can only go on that car and not another one... If the reasons are not good enough than it'll get an age-related number...
Private plates are another matter - they're worth serious dosh to the DVLA and I have a feeling all the rules and regulations are slung out of the window in favour of the money they make.
That H11PCL plate would be considered a private plate due to its low number and I expect it was sold off at a profit long ago. DVLA normally held back all low numbers up to 20 for later sale as private plates in later years. My AX registration started G21 and that was unusual at the time in being the lowest number issued...
I like your remanufactured period plates Matthew

Right, that's enough from me on registration numbers

Re: The Latest Project!!
When you first told me about this I thought it a very exciting project. What an excellent looking car in the right colour combination, with 'that' engine and Diravi steering. Just perfect, I'm really looking forward to seeing you with it at an event next year
Have you got it on the road as one of your daily drivers now Matthew?
